LDD technic: FIAT X1/9
Some BIG technic Fiat X1/9
About this creation
A LDD build for the contest:
Summer Cars 2015 'Dream Drives'

edit: I discovered bluerender, I changed the main pic!

The Fiat X1/9 is a two-seater mid-engined sports car designed by Bertone and manufactured by Fiat from 1972-1982 and subsequently by Bertone from 1982-1989.
With a transverse engine and gearbox in a mid-mounted, rear-wheel drive configuration, the X1/9 was noted for its excellent handling, ightweight-removable hardtop, front and rear-storage compartments ó and for being designed from its conception to meet the late 60s U.S. safety regulations.

Some other views:

2 pics, everything opened (yes, also the glovebox):

Oh, wait one with the headlights up:

Enginebay:

Engine is visible in my preview post: techproject

dashbord (I'm not sure if it's the latter, or the early dashbord, body of the car is intended as early, European version:

I'm pleased with the bottom, as it's completely flat:

Some techniques:
headlights, controled from the center console:

doorlock, sprung, reachable as well from the outside, as the inside:

any hatch is lock-controled from the inside:

as well as the top has a lock:

even the seats slide:

shifting:

More pictures on the gearshifting:

suspension is already visible in my post
front wheel suspension . I didn't complete the breaking system, as LDD is sometimes a *** to handle.

Oh: available in other colors, here you can see the car with the top on...

What would I love to drive this car in the mountains of the Gorges du Verdon, France
particulary on the road from Aiguines to Castellane (D952), mmmm

Fourth wall (just a small one)
Sure there are some design flaws, as in beams with empty space design, as the front wheel arches aren't attached sufficient, as the lock for the rear trunk isn't really good. LDD isn't always that easy to cope with :-)
But hey: look at it:

enjoy, please leave you honest comments...

Wow, I can't believe that I've forgotten to write a few lines here. I don't think it can be done much better with Technic parts. Great job! :-))

Cool, a technic model for an entry! I find technic always a bit "naked", but one can really see the x1/9 shape! And considering its done mostly with outlines, it proves you have a keen eye for proportions! Superb Moc, very unique and great car choice! Many greets, ron.

Thank you all for those nice comments! To answer a few remarks: I did try some technical platery, but left them behind after I had to shorten the nose for 2 studs. I don't have much experience with them, and LDD is not the best playground either... Well it is, but oh my, all that hinging, and flexing, it took a lot of my energy already. Again, thanks, and well appreciated!

I really like this one...WOW....some fresh ideas and stunning to look at. I agree with Paul, it has a certain "retro look" to it. Very well done, I included you on my "favorite builders" 10/10 !!!

Great stuff! I love that car, and your technic version is awesome and looks very retro-ish. And that road choice is fantastic, Les gorges du verdon is one of france most beautiful places;-) well done & good luck! (Ps: do you need some renderings?)

Great model loaded with features! The shaping is excellent -- I was easily able to recognize the car even with the just Technic framing. Did you consider trying to use some Technic panels to give the bodywork a more complete look?

Fantastic entry Joost! I love the X1/9, your model does the real car justice - well done :) funnily enough, I was in the south of France for two weeks very recently and I visited Gorges De Verdon and drove on that exact road - what a road it is! Great choice of car and road, good luck

While I appreciate Matt's point about panels I prefer it the way it is. Reminds me of 8880 in a really good way!

Just been admiring your transverse gearbox with remote shifting... stellar stuff!

Wow. One of my favourite little sports cars (if only I wasn't too tall to drive it!) and your model is one of the best Technic cars I've seen. Ever. Stunning work!
