A review and comparison of the first ( most likely last ) wookiee gunship, and the first republic gunship. First a little background. 75084 Wookiee Gunship is a 570 piece Star Wars: Rebels set released in January 2015. Retail price is $69.99.
About this creation
The cockpit for the wookiee gunship is very similar to the republic gunship, the overall ship is very similar. The gun turret behind the co-pilot makes it a little harder to fit one of the wookiees that come with the ship into the cockpit.

The equivalent of the troop bay on the republic gunship sets, this is perhaps the most disappointing on the ship, I was hoping for a little more here, I can remember the glory days when lego would add more details to the interior and maybe even some secret compartments. But for seventy bucks you get what you get. Definitely not awful but left me hoping for a little more in this department.

The ramp in the back, or if you will "backdoor" comes down to reveal a hidden cannon. A bit of a half attempt for lego.

Just a shot if the interior... Not very impressive.

Now the comparison to the first republic gunship set. I remember reading lego magazine 12 years ago and wondering what was in the front of the ship, I was not disappointed either. Even the second attempt at the laat/i was impressive.

The top of the gunship shows a little more detail, the power source and fuels lines.

Finally we have the troop bay that I love so much, not as impressive as the newer gunship versions but I will always have a soft spot for this ship, even if the details aren't accurate in the troop bay lego took the time to at least add some. In conclusion the wookiee gunship really doesn't have much to it. It lacks that sense of creativity that lego used to always have ( now it's more hit and miss ) it seems lego focuses more on making the ship look more realistic than it does fun. Twelve years ago $90.00 got you a very good model, today $70.00 gets you a ship that leaves much to be desired, for the die hard collector this ship is a fine purchase, but for someone who wants to play with it and have fun I recommend you save your money. I can only hope lego gets some new designers who are less focused on making money and more focused on putting out ships that have a lot of thought and care put into them.
