Space Freighter S.S. 5906 "Goliath"
This ship was built for a collaboration conceived by Stephan Niehoff and brilliantly put together by Pico Van Grootveld. It was an honor and a privilege to be apart of this project, and to work with such talented builders.
About this creation
The Goliath is an Atlas class Star Freighter. Built by the Starfleet Master Shipwrights in 4515. These massive Freighters are slow to get moving when fully loaded, but once there up to cruising speed there's no stopping them. Because of their immense size they rely on shuttles to transport the cargo to and from the ship. their hardy construction has kept them in service for 45 + years, and the foreseeable future. you can check out the beautiful picture here Mining Frenzy

Hidey ho neighbor. How are things going? The weather is awesome here today. Baseball season has started. My leg is FINALLY starting to feel better, it only took a year and a half. Things are not too bad today. So far anyway. How's your baby doing? Is she feeling any better?

Clayton, how did I miss this? I just saw the thumbnail and was blown away, more so as I viewed the gallery. Immediately I'm reminded of 2001 a Space Odyssey - the cockpit ball is a dead ringer. You've really spruced it up with the blue along the hull though, it looks fantastic. Blue and grey are a very elegant combination which you've pulled off well. The engines are also spectacular, dainty in their separation from the ship yet looking very powerful at the same time. Impressive work all around, a real stunner of a ship!

Quoting Halfblind Jacobyte Oftentimes the ship designs from the 70s and 80s could suck a lot. Just look at the ships from Buck Rodgers and most of the ships from Battlestar Gallactica except the vipers. But, oftentimes ships from the modern era could also suck as well. This ship however does not suck. I like ships that have the spherical design on the front while having multiple containers on the back. It kind of has an old-school retro feel to them. I also like ships that are sleek like various ships from Babylon 5 and Andromeda. I also really like this ship found on an old compilation disk of 80s music http://www.allmusic.com/album/80s-hits-back-mw0000648490. I would like to see that ship built with Legos, because that would be amazing.
Thanks Jacobyte! You didn't like the rag tag fugitive fleet like the Rising Star? Or the pirate ships in Buck Rogers. They were cool. I love ships that are cobbled together from model battleships and fighter planes ha ha ha! Good stuff. That ship on the cover of that album is awesome. A sphere with a frame and engines. Love it. One of these days I want to make a ship called the Vulture. It's from Salvage 1 TV show from the late 70s I think you'll love it.

Quoting Kermunklin the Giant Evil House Head Pretty sweet. I saw the composite pic, it was really something else! This thing lives up to name "Goliath." Something like that, loaded down with precious ABSinite, would surely be a planet killer if something went wrong with the trajectory. Especially love the engine array-fantastic details! Also, with the Death Star sphere in the front, it kind of reminds me of the truck from the new Mad Max movie...although that's a bit of a stretch.

Quoting Lee Barton To make such brilliant use of the micro death star says everything you need to know about this creation, it fits so perfectly. The idea of it being so cumbersome, that it needs smaller shuttles to load and unload the cargo is something straight out of a space movie. This piece alone is excellent, and when so brilliantly combined with all the others in the collaboration, it makes for one of the best sets around.
Thank you so much Lee! I made a number of command modules and none of them looked nearly as good as the deathstar. Plus the dish on the front took it slightly out of round. I'm glad you liked the shuttles. I thought it made the freighter more believable.

Quoting Marc "Edge" R.unde Wonderful job, Clayton! The whole thing is just so beautiful. These moving cranes for loading and unloading are such a sweet detaill. Not to forget the Eagle Shuttles! The whole concept of this ship is pure SciFi art, Gerry Anderson would have been proud of! Glad for being part of this sweet collaborative build with you! ~Marc

Quoting David Roberts There's so much to take in and enjoy here. I have to start with the super Eagle shuttle craft and great use of the Death Star (Please add this to my "Death Star Fun" group!). The repeated blue modules give a sense of a cargo craft on a huge scale, as per its very appropriate name. It's great to see zoomed in photos of this ship. I hadn't realised what the splashes of red were from the poster: they're cranes! I love how they run on tracks and can access every part of the cargo area. An excellent spacecraft indeed!
Thanks David! I added this to your group. What a cool idea for a group! The deathstar looked so much better than the brick built command modules I built. The whole ship was built around the cranes running on those rails. I wanted it to be realistic, whats a freighter without their cranes. Thanks again David!

Quoting Tim C Really love how this turned out, Clayton. The overall shape gives it that utilitarian look that I'm sure you were going for, and the blue containers just sort of pop off of all that grey. I really like how you also included docking points. Nice touch. Been a pleasure working with you, and ultimately trying to blow your creation out of space;)
Thanks Tim! Those blue containers sure do pop off all that grey especially when there hit with a plasma plast ha ha ha! I'm glad you noticed the docking points! I added those just before I took the original pics. It was great working with you as well Tim! We should do this again some time.

Pretty sweet.

Quoting matt rowntRee A beautiful behemoth, Brother! Love the cash cow feel of this beast. Love the engines too with the clever nozzles, I'll have to steel that one. ;) And the grappling hook in the dish. Impressed with this portion of the collab, really added a level of realistic industriousness and workhorse-ness to it. Outstanding!
Thanks Brother! Now you know why I made a mess on Flicker ha ha ha! I totally looked at this build as a business venture, and a juicy target for Tim. I like to think because of Marc's behemoth the old girl makes it home. I can't wait to see yours posted!

Wow!! This is fantastic! Perfectly suited for its role as a freighter! I love the overall design and how it looks like something I can picture in the real world in a time not too far distant in the future to current times. I love the little red cranes you've added to the ship! The color contrast between the blue and red adds a nice touch to the ship's style. I like it a lot. Also, excellent use of the death star! Keep On Brickin'!

To make such brilliant use of the micro death star says everything you need to know about this creation, it fits so perfectly. The idea of it being so cumbersome, that it needs smaller shuttles to load and unload the cargo is something straight out of a space movie. This piece alone is excellent, and when so brilliantly combined with all the others in the collaboration, it makes for one of the best sets around.

Wonderful job, Clayton! ~Marc

Yes this was indeed a beautiful and greasy target for those neighbourhood pirates! A splendid build and very nice addition, almost centerpiece, to the collab'. Glad you had fun building it, as it was equally fun incorporating it. Loved the idea of adding the debris afterwards as well. Thanks for joining the party Clayton :D

There's so much to take in and enjoy here.
