LEGO V-Rod
LEGO V-Rod motorbike, a Technic and System combination model.
About this creation

This is my LEGO V-Rod motorbike. A model heavily inspired from the Harley Davidson V-Rod. The frame of the real HD V-rod is on the outside of the bike, this one isn`t, because it would have depended on use of a lot of pneumatic pipes, which would probably have been a pain to handle, with parts breaking off, and so on. So the Technic frame is inside and holds everything nice in place. The engine has no movable parts except for the output-axle, connected to the chaindrive. The suspension works with a limited spring-stroke both front and rear. The rear whell consist of a 61.6mm Rim (# 2903), with 81,6mm Tyre (# 2902), outside this is another Tyre 94,2mm (# 88516). This makes it up for the fat reartyre all LEGOs models are missing. The brakediscs are my own custom-design. They are made from a sandwich of, on the outside, printed paper forming the face of the disc. And inside a cardboard ring fitting the outer of 24mm Technic disc (# 2723), everything glued together and given several layers of varnich. A few pieces have been painted, silver and black.

Quoting Sam the First How on earth have I not commented!? I guess I did it on Flickr, and forgot to do it on MOCpages. Anywho, this is stunning! Lego bikes that look good with out 753 illegal techniques are very rare, and this is one of them!
Thank you Sam! And yes, you did comment on Flickr. Only thing for a purist to point fingers at on this one, are my own custom made brakediscs. The double rear tyre is maybe an illegal building method, but pure Lego.

Quoting Markus Schlegel How on earth could I miss this masterpiece?! I'm glad you posted your flashback. Otherwise I would never have seen this gem! I haven't been a huge fan of lego bikes but this is certainly ranked very high on my list of this year's best mocs.
Thank you very much Markus! I`m very pleased you like it. Motorbikes build with Lego are quite difficult to make look like real motorbikes, but somehow I managed to some degree with this one. Stay tuned for my first MOC in 2016, a new motorbike.

Quoting Kira Redlof Hey Henrik, I was wondering will we ever see something similar like this beauty ever again from you?:)
For the moment I'm working on another aircraft model, but I will try again to make a new bike, and hopefully it will be in a similar quality, but of course it will be up to you to judge. So for now you will just have to be patient.

Thank you all for the overwhelming reception of this build! It`s a pleasure recieving so many positive comments, and during the day I have discovered that it`s been blogged by both TheLegoCarBlog and Brickn... and it`s really great to get that extra recognition. @Oran Cruzen; Thank you for the very nice comment. @matt rowntRee; Thank you Matt! I`m especially happy about the rearwheel, since no modern bike has equally sized front and rearwheels. I don`t no exactly who to credit for this idea, but I think I saw EROL (Marcus Paul) use it for some carwheels, and thought the same could be done with bikewheels. @C.K. Yee; Thank you! You are very kind. @gene 3s; Thank you. @Jimmie Martinez; That`s a very flattering comment, thank you! @Kira Redlof; I`ll interpret this as a positive comment, thank you. @Nacho Argüelles;Thank you, it`s definitely an important detail. @Per Bonde; I`m glad you like it. @Mathieu Dupre; Thank you dude :-) @cyberfrank 2010; Thank you. @Stephan Schumann; Thank you for your comment. @Greg 998; That`s a lot of superlatives, thank you! @Győri János; Thank you, that`s a great comment. @Dennis B; Thank you Dennis! Quoting Jeremy McCreary Henrik, Best LEGO motorcycle I've ever seen, period -- and there are some truly outstanding examples on LEGO Ideas. With all due respect to Jim, looks more like a Harley Sportster than a Moto to me. (Used to ride with buddies that had both, but not in recent years. My Suzuki GS1100 left 'em both in the dust every time -- especially around the curves.)
Quoting Jeremy McCreary BTW, Henrik, this MOC beautifully demonstrates the advantages of being open to what I call "selective impurism". (Considered "non-purism", but it didn't sound naughty enough.) The visual would suffer substantially without those disk brake rotors -- as iconic a feature as any on modern motorcycles. Lately, my obsession with spinning tops has had me building countless rotors of every conceivable construction and size using virtually every round part LEGO's ever made. I simply can't imagine a pure LEGO solution with anything close to the visual impact you've achieved here.
Thank you very much for both comments! I like ”selective impurism”, I think it covers very well what we sometimes have to do, to get the look we want.
