Well, no way around it, I was in a fix. I had been captured by a Mythronian raiding party, and brought to a castle garrisoned by hundreds of troops. I was stuck. But worse, I felt betrayed. Betrayed by the Spy Council, betrayed by Jacob, betrayed by Donjnir......betrayed by everyone.
I was to be executed in less than 12 hours. I was so broken...no one had an ounce of loyalty, my brother's memory spat upon by the council....in the grand scheme, death didn't seem so bad.
Then my cell door opened.
"Come to give me your best wishes for tomorrow, Jacob?" I said, Bitterness and sarcasm coursing through my veins. But his reply wasn't what I expected.
"Jonathan," Jacob replied, in a very soft tone. "I'm here to set you free."
I was shocked. For a second, I didn't believe him. But he produced a coat, and continued. "I took this coat off one of the guards."
As I pulled the coat over me, Jacob sliced off my chains.
"Jacob," I said, turning to look at him. "You were willing to......even after I killed your soldiers......"
"Friendship, Jonathan, is not conditional," Jacob told me.
As Jacob produced a cloak, I pondered my friend. He was willing, in the end, to put friend over country. To put friendship over fealty.....truly, Jacob was a friend I could trust to the end. And that gave me so much comfort. My energy, my confidence, it all flowed back.
I was back.
Builder's notes: Just a small moc to advance my story. But I really enjoyed the stonework for this one. No more finals, so I can finally get back to some serious building.
Author's notes: As said, this story advances my characters once more. But tell me what you think!
