USS Reliant NCC 1864
I present the USS Reliant prior to her refit. I always loved the design of the Reliant, and wondered what she would look like in the TOS era. Since I couldn't find a date of her construction. I decided that it was quite plausible that the Miranda class was there all along. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Quoting Gerald F. I barely know a thing of Star Trek, but this ship looks really famtastic! I like how the big cannon/thruster is connected to the spoiler at the top-rear portion of the ship. The long, cylindrical thrusters came out really well in this build. Awwsomw work. How do you add the name to the ship? Are those decals? Anyhow, Keep On Brickin'!
Thanks Gerald! Actually that big dish is the TOS style deflector. For some reason the Reliant is the only starship that didn't have one. So for my TOS version that was somthing I wanted to remedy

Quoting Henrik Jensen I have watched quite some episodes of Star Trek, but I really don`t remember this spaceship. Somehow I have lost interest in the scifi theme, but just to see some reference pictures I googled it, and I must say you really deserve every single like given on this one. A great addition to your signature build.
Thank you very much Henrik! What I did here was take the Reliant from the Wrath of Khan and imagined what it would have looked like in TOS era. That's why she has the old style engines and deflector mounted on the roll bar.

Quoting Scott Bertaut A neat looking ship, I especially like the design of the engines. The design of the saucer section looks like it was pretty hard to pull off, unless it is a pre-made part, round shapes are hard to do in LEGO. Now that I have finished Stargate, this kind of makes me want to pick up Star Trek again.
Thank you Scott! Yes the top and bottom are 1/4 round panels from the old UFO sets. I like them for TOS ships.

Hi Clayton. I was just stopping by to say bye again. I've been trying to get back into it but it's just not working. I've lost my drive to build, and it's just not coming back. Plus without all my old mocs its just not the same. Maybe down the road I'll feel different, but it's just not happening right now. Take care my friend. Keep building for me.

Quoting Tim C Missed this when you posted it, Clayton. Really gorgeous work. The shaping is perfect. I am a builder who strives for studless works, but you have fearlessly left many of them exposed. I actually like the effect that the studs have on the overall look. It's easy to imagine them just being extra details on the surface of this famous craft. Great work, man, and I can't wait to see your contribution to the collab in its own post.
Thanks Tim! There Rivets I tells ya! Ha ha ha! I do try to eliminate studs too, but when you try to cover wedge plates in tiles. From certain angles instead of a nice line you get a steped look. Hope you enjoyed your trip to the Emerald Isle.

I actually like the effect that the studs have on the overall look. It's easy to imagine them just being extra details on the surface of this famous craft. Great work, man, and I can't wait to see your contribution to the collab in its own post.

Hiya Clayton. Well, how did it go with the wax ring? Did you get it done. You know what I hate, it's turning off the water to the toilet. That little knob makes me nervous, sometimes they drip. And sometimes they don't stop dripping. I hate that.

I'm glad it went well for you. You're a jack of all trades. Have you done anymore with the Batman episode you are working on? I can't wait to to see the Batcave when it's done. Did you see that they made some action figures from the old show. They made maybe six different figures, I think. They did a pretty good job on them too. Well, time to get some sleep. Have a good one.

The wax ring? I hate doing that. It's got to be the stickiest thing on the planet. I've heard that people with handlebar mustaches use them to shape it. Anyway, I came home early today because I had another doctor appointment, this time for my leg. It's been hurting lately, but he doesn't know what's wrong with it, he said to give it a month to see if it goes away. I hope it does, it's killing me. Oh well, if it doesn't kill me it just makes me tougher, right?

She always seemed like she was built more for combat. She photorp launchers faced both fore and aft, and she had more phaser emitters, all on the more compact frame. I used to have the AMT/ERTL model kit of both her and the refit-Enterprise with LED lighting.

Quoting Justin Davies I always did favor the design aesthetics of the Miranda class. Never was too big a fan of the TOS designs, although I understand it was a result of the limitations of both the time period and budget of the show. Personally I've always loved the movie designs best, especially that of the Reliant.
After the Enterprise the Reliant was my favorite federation ship. I like the compactness of it. Yet it's still a very capable ship.

Quoting Lego Jim ... You figured me out. Sigh. I'm not really that good at hiding out I guess. I took your advice and got a couple of new sets. I got two of the new minecraft sets. The mine and the crafting box. I'm still building them, I'm going to do a little at a time and make it last. I was really going to give it up for good, but it's just too much fun. I think I'm just depressed right now because I've been sick all winter, and my wife usually doesn't feel that well either. But yesterday the weather was pretty good, so we went for a ride. I ended up at the lego store and bought a couple things. It got me a little pumped.
I'm really glad your back! Don't do that again! :-) nothing like a new set to pick up your sprits. Last week I picked up the work truck with the porta potty on the back. I laughed the whole time I built it. Makes smile every time I look at it. I keep thing of a minifig inside and his buddies turning it upsidedown on him. How's that for a mental picture. Ha ha ha!

Yes, for a while I did not see it here and thought I was not dreaming, then I remembered it was on the other site where I joined first. Thanks James! Was it all the exposed studs that tipped you off ha ha ha! Yes there are a lot of non cannon version out there. One I found was called the Anton class. There's a huge amount of non cannon Star Trek, I just love it. Especially if I can make a TOS version of it. You've seen my Dreadnought over on Brickshelf? I've been tweaking it a little. I'm not Clayton, but I can answer that. The modulation matrix is located in Engineering and that particular function would need to be done there, as that system is "shielded" from the bridge... at least in ST:TNG where La Forge had to do that so the Ent-D could survive a Borg attack.

Quoting Marty Fields Amazing work, Clayton. Nice to see an original series version of a later ship. I always thought the STII Relaint should have a deflector dish as just a speck of dust colliding with the ship at even low warp would be like a nuclear bomb hitting the ship! You have solved the problem with this version. Well done.
Thanks Marty! I was originally not going to have the roll-bar, trying to envision what an earlier version of Reliant would look like. I was going to hang the deflector from underneath the saucer, but the ship looked unrecognizable. So I replaced the roll-bar and put the deflector on top.

Never really liked the TOS Enterprise look, a classic for sure, but so dang simple 60's. I think it is mostly the skinny pylons holding the nacelles. But exactly that simple 60's design suits the Reliant much more than the Enterprise. Must be that more complex and compact look of it. So, great work here. You made me like TOS design a little more!

Quoting matt rowntRee Awesomeness! Looks to be in much better shape than the last time I saw it as it turned into a planet. You nailed the shape, that pic from above is spot on. I can see this thing maneuvering around the nebula in "two dimensions." Fantastic work as usual, Brother. I'm with Locutus in saying, "KHAAAAAN!!!!"
Thanks Brother! Two dimensional thinking will get you killed every time ha ha ha! I really like the shot from above too. At least she won't be destroyed in the alternate timeline.

Quoting Paddy Bricksplitter Very cool build. RIP Mr Nimoy. I don't recognise those curved plates on the top of the saucer section. They look very handy. Like it!
Thanks Paddy! that was sad to here of the passing of Mr. Nimoy. Those curved plates on top were from the UFO series lego made in the late 90s and again with the first millennium falcon.

Amazing work, Clayton. Nice to see an original series version of a later ship. I always thought the STII Relaint should have a deflector dish as just a speck of dust colliding with the ship at even low warp would be like a nuclear bomb hitting the ship! You have solved the problem with this version. Well done.

Quoting Giorgio Ferrannini Great one Clayton! very clean end effective build. I may be wrong but... aren't the engines rectangular rather than circular?
Thanks Giorgio! Yes the engines were rectangular in the movie wrath of Khan. What I did here was try to envision what Reliant may have looked like prior to her refit. An earlier version.
