As usual I had a list of changes I wanted to make to version 2 and decided rather than wait till after I'd started another project I'd dive straight in and do some of them now.
Firstly I was unhappy with the overall shape of the original vehicle mode, so I've altered the transformation scheme to make the legs more of an engine than the original wings.
I also wasn't sure if I liked the style of the wings, I've only changed them slightly as I didn't want to dramatically alter the robot's silhouette, but I think they make the vehicle lines flow better.
I've omitted the target master "nightstick" for the time being, though the result is a slightly unbalanced look in vehicle mode, I was going to try and make a second attachment point more central or underneath, but for now the simplest option is just to create a second weapon.
I've altered the hip hinge from ball joint to t-joint. The result is a slight sacrifice of outward motion but a much more compact vehicle form. I may experiment will reintroducing the ball joints later.
Due to the transformation of the cockpit it wasn't possible the change the nose cone or alter the head design dramatically so for now they remain the same.
Perhaps the biggest change is the colours. The lilac is closer to the animation model, though somewhat lighter than the G1 toy. I prefer it this way as it makes a much more dynamic difference from Shockwave's colours.
As before I can see this being retooled/recoloured easily into a pre-earth mode Swoop. Which might wind up the first of my pre-dino Dinbots, depends if inspiration takes me.
Sadly when I took images of Scourge next to this design I realised that the ultra thin pelvis I normally use is too flimsy and I need to start bulking up my figures at this scale. So this may be the start of a new aesthetic for future "my own" legoformers.
As I mentioned previously my plan is to continue with the Minions of Unicron concept with a reinvented Galvatron, possibly a new version of Scourge and almost definitely a new version of Sideways.
