About this creation

The HU-1B was an improved model that was equipped with the Lycoming T53-L-5 engine of 960 shp (720 kW), revised main rotor blades of 44-foot (13 m) diameter and 21-inch (530 mm) chord, 13 inch higher rotor mast and a longer cabin that could accommodate seven passengers. This version was redesignated UH-1B in 1962.

Later production UH-1Bs were equipped with Lycoming T53-L-9 and L-11 engines of 1,100 shp (820 kW). Gross weight was 8,500 lb (3,900 kg) and the standard empty weight was 4,513 lb (2,047 kg).

During service in the Vietnam War, the UH-1 was used for various purposes and various terms for each task abounded. UH-1s tasked with a ground attack or armed escort role were outfitted with rocket launchers, grenade launchers, and machine guns. As early as 1962, UH-1s were modified locally by the companies themselves, who fabricated their own mounting systems. These gunship UH-1s were commonly referred to as "Frogs" or "Hogs" if they carried rockets, and "Cobras" or simply "Guns" if they had guns.

I love the scuplt .. my first ride in the Army was one of these just before we started transitioning to the Blackhawk. Being a grunt I loved the sound of whap, whap, whap, whap that the Huey makes. If you have the LDD file, I'd love to recreate it myself. thanks

Quoting Kevin Kaelin Nice Huey! I like how you captured the look of this helicopter out of bricks. Also, from the pics it looks like the heli was done digitaly. If you design on the computer which program do you use? I would appreciate it if you could let me know. Thanks.
I use LDD to build my models, then render the output files using both LDD to POV-Ray and POV-Ray together to create the final image. I hope to build each once I have collected the necessary elements.

This is just amazing! Everywhere I look, the details look spot on. The fact that the doors actually slide is gravy on top of everything else. I don't know whether you are going to continue building helicopters, but I'd love to see a Black Hawk or Skycrane built with this level of accuracy.
