About this creation
Hello all, I'm new to the community and very excited to have a chance to enter this awesome contest hosted by David and David!

Here is my entry to the Classic Space Pocket Money Contest 3. My main model is the imposing 'CSUM', Classic Space Utility Mech, made from exactly 100 pieces, a mix of old and new.

THE CREATION

The 'CSUM' is a classic spaceman's best friend, from short planetary scouting missions to heavy lifting in the classic space base, the CSUM can do it all. The 'CSUM' comes equiped with great mobility, tons of articulation and powerful jets and short-wings in the rear for short burst propulsion steering. My original model was closer to 160 pieces and I wanted to make it the right size to enter the contest, I had to sacrifice a few greebles, but I am very pleased with the outcome. I hope you enjoy.

The first alternate model is the high speed racing ship 'Scorpion Speeder' seen in flight mode.

After scouting and lifting with the 'CSUM', a spaceman can easily rebuild into the 'Scorpion Speeder' for longer distance reconnaissance missions or for some high speed racing thrills on the outer limits of the classic space base. The 'Scorpion Speeder' is highly aerodynamic and can handle tight turns with ease. The tail curls up and landing gear retracts when coming back to home base for easy parking and storage.

And because you guys requested we have some fun with this competition, i decided to make my final alternate the 'Sub Woofer', a mobile DJ Transport Craft, because even spacemen need to have fun and unwind at the end of a long day.

The 'Sub-Woofer' is a vertical take-off craft that comes fully equipped with all the components to get a zero-gravity party started, including the DJ. When the 'Sub-woofer' lands, the DJ just has to detach the two 'Space Bass' speakers, the 'twin turbo turntables' and pop one ball joint to fold the rest of the craft up into the 'Lunar Laser Lighting System', and BOOM, you got phat beats for an OG classic space party.

Here is the parts list, 100 pieces exactly, you can see the massive amount of mini ball joints from the mixel line, they are some of my new favorite parts.

Awesome! It was so hard to decide on the third alternate, I had a few concepts, but this just made me laugh the most!

Quoting David Roberts Great to this in the 50+ Club group :D
yay! It's great to be seen in the 50+ club for the second time!! Looking forward to adding another soon!!! Next up the 100+ club!
Quoting Hildigrim Took haha! Awesome! I like the head choice on the mini-fig! I also like the fingers, an all around job well done!
haha, thanks Hildigrim, the jury is out on wether the head works or not, it technically isn't a 'classic space' head, haha.

Quoting Mister Hashtag I keep coming back to see this thing and I realized I hadn't commented! That's an incredible model, less than 100 pieces is mighty impressive for an exo-suit!!! Keep 'em coming!
Hey! thanks for the comment mister hashtag! I'm mighty proud of this guy, I have an expanded version of the Mech, it had to be done. http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/403241 So glad I joined the pages in time to enter this contest, by far one of the coolest things I got to do with LEGO since I resurfaced from my dark ages. I can't wait for the next one!

Quoting David Roberts An excellent looking Exosuit type build with less than 100 parts is impressive. I like the balance of blue and grey in the model too. The Mixels hinges give it great poseability and stability. A simple but very effective hand design too. 10 Good contrast between the alternatives and the main build. The spaceship looks good and the mobile disco is a very novel idea. How does the sound travel through the vacuum of space? The ship looks fun to swoosh too. 7 Despite having lots of hinged elements, this builds looks strong and fun to play with. The greebling is mainly done with bricks and plates and slopes, which are strong. Lot of play and story telling opportunities are to had from this model. Perhaps it would have been god to have made one of the arms different, with a specific function, to give the mech a job? 8 An excellent and bold choice to make an Exosuit in less than 100 parts. Modern parts, such as Mixels hinges have allowed you to innovate a design that would have been bulky and weak back in the 1980s. I think that this would have been worth even more points if te mech had an unusual job too. 8 Total 33
wow David, thank you for the detailed review of my entry, the time and effort you guys put in to grading these entries is just amazing! A big thank-you. I learned a lot from my first pocket money contest, I'm looking forward to building a better story along with a better entry for next year!
Quoting David Alexander Smith Design: Cool flexible mech, CS in style but completely of the 2015s (8) Alternatives: Those joints sure help you build some strange alternatives. (8) Playability: Can he wrestle, yes he can! (8) Innovation: CS in style but pushing at the boundaries with some neat new building techniques. (7)
thank-you David, like I said to mr Roberts, a huge thanks for organizing this event and taking the time to review every aspect of our entries. I'm looking forward to the next contest!

Quoting Nils O. Wow, a CS mech, ans such a compact one! I want to build somethin like that for a long time. It looks a lot more like CS than the Exo Suit and it's very functional, too. The "Scorpion Speeder" looks so cool, it could easily be the main model of the set. Great job! And good luck for the contest :-))
Wow Nils! Thanks so much for the comment, I'm glad you like the CS mech so much! And yeah, I felt the same that the scorpion speeder could have been the main model, but it didn't use the full 100 parts, so I left the mech as the main build with all 100 parts. Good luck to you too buddy!

Quoting Crimso Giger First, constructive critiscism ;-) The face of the fig, IMO, doesn't really goes well with the CS spirit... But it's really a minor issue, as the three model are very creative, funny and interesting !!! Very nice entry !!!
You are right Crimso, I just couldn't resist that goofy smile for my last alternate the sub-woofer! Haha! Thanks for the praise, in excited to be a part of the contest!

Quoting MortalSwordsman . This is a cool entry, I particularly like the scorpion speeder - good luck :). I hear you built my GTO, would love to see it again especially as you take some fantastic photos. Hope you enjoyed the build.
Thanks Mortal, I'm loving the response to the scorpion speeder, it's slick. I finished your 5867 GTO this morning, it is gorgeous. Lovin building everyone's alternates for the creator cars, helping me learn the essential car techniques, which I'm new to, so it's alot of fun and very educational! Keep up the amazing creations!

Quoting Marc dZ All of these 3 builds are awesome. Great use of blue, LBG and trans yellow colors. The result is various and very interesting. The DJ set is hilarious and the Mech is brilliantly made. Good luck for your first contest!!
Thanks Marc, trans yellow is just such a great addition to anything, but its roots will always be in CS for me. I had some other great alternates, but the DJ transport just brought a smile to my face when i was able to pop the spaceman's helmet off and spin his head for a goofy smile. it screamed FUN!

Quoting Sylvester Poulsen I really love the scorpion speeder.
I do too Sylvester, as a stand-alone model it may be my favorite small ship I've made in a while. I had to take some pretty pictures with it, http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/403350 I wish I was better at photoshopping my creations into sick backgrounds like I've seen elsewhere on this site.

Thanks Clayton, to be honest, after building the scorpion speeder I was at a loss considering to make it my main model, but it used too few parts compared to the CSUM, so i left it as my main alternate. Its a slick little rig that speeder ;-)
