Steampunk Exo-Suit

A tribute to Pete Reid's excellent Exo-Suit design, with a steampunk twist!
About this creation
Built for the Great Exhibition of 1851 by Sedgwick Crumley. The keen but cash-strapped inventor had high hopes of winning royal patronage for his ongoing tinkering by putting 'Sedgwick Crumley's Remarkable And Practical PErambulation Device' on display.

Although visitors were suitably impressed, Crumley's hopes were dashed when he accidentally trod on Prince Albert's prize hunting hound during a demonstration, and the invention soon lived up to it's acronym!

Poseability is good...

...and a handstand is very possible.

Signing off!

Fourth wall: Pete Reid's original exo-suit design is an iconic MOC, and - re-worked by Merk Stafford - is about to be released as the next Lego Ideas set. You can see both versions here on Brickset. While the official set isn't quite as elegant as the original monochrome design, it's a lot less fragile and still my favourite set released this year - great job Pete & Mark! The greebly design seemed to lend itself to a steampunk re-working, hope you like it!

Quoting Michal Hennel Steampunk has always have some kind of ellegance of 19. century mixed with somewhat riddiculostiy of mechanical inventions of that time. I think you made very solid build, as others I like inversed position the most. Also, proportions are somewhat dilapidated (non heroic), so this build looks like some prototype very well. great work!
Thanks very much Michal, and everyone, for your thoughtful and positive comments!

Nice work. I like the color scheme. The cannon as a smoke stack works well.

Wicked fantastic! When can we pre-order this version? I agree that the exo-suit is definitely one of the best sets Lego has churned out in a long while in regards to space. Well, that and Benny's ship. But your own reworking here is masterful. Love the cannon/stovepipe, very clever. I think you might have started a trend with different versions of the suit showing up with it's release. Trailblazer! Mr. Crumley would be proud. ;) Outstanding! (even inverted)

I love the handstand photo! The Technic limbs look very strong and playable, plus the colours are nicely done too. The story is great, especially squishing Prince Albert's dog leading to the project's end.

Thanks Matt! True, Benny's Spaceship is very awesome as well. I'm hoping we do see some more variants too... hmm, there might be a contest idea in that...

Quoting Dario Del Frate STEAMING HOT!!! Very nice twist to the exosuit. I love the wheel on the legs and the cannon pack! Great stuff! I agree with you: the exo is the better model yet released this year but not as elegant as Pete's original... Eurobricks announced the new steampunk contest, you should go for it! This exo of yours is 5/5!
Thanks Dario, I hadn't spotted that contest, I'll check it out!
