QF-4E Phantom II
Having used up their allotted airframe hours, the Phantoms are sent to the Davis-Monthan AFB, also known as the boneyard, for storage to await final disposition. Some aircraft are reconditioned and sold to foreign nations, others merely sold for scrap, but many are pulled back out and converted into remotely piloted target drones for the testing of new weapons and for live fire missile training of US pilots. As the remaining Phantoms dwindle in number, the QF-16 Fighting Falcon will replace it in the target drone role. This model represents a QF-4E drone, converted from a former USAF F-4E air superiority version of the Phantom.
