Chapter 3: The Guardian
Steven's journey continues to this WIP tower which later became part of the elegant Falmore fortress. Please read the chapter, then join Rainos in the Lands of Mythron.
About this creation

"Here we are, crew - the reason we are safe to walk these lands.'

'A burnt-out watchtower?'
The company gazed at the crumbling edifice for a moment.
'Sorry, Captain, but how does a ruin protect us? Wouldn't a sturdy, well-garrisoned one do a better job?'
'Ah, Miss Flounder, that depends on who runs the garrison. This is, or was, Felmore Tower, one of two great strongholds that held this part of the province for Mythron. Its sister, Falmore Tower, is our destination. Now, this one is nothing but a shattered husk.'
'Hey, what's that in there?'
'Couldn't say.'

'I'm going for a closer look!'

'Watch out! Monsters!'

A crossbow bolt ended the immediate threat.
'Come on, get out of there!'

'Good shooting, Mr. Farrer. Now let's go; I think we've seen enough here.'
'Ha. I would'a gotten out anyway; I got my lucky coin... Oh, no!'
'Come on, kid. If you left it back there, it's done for.'
'I can't! It's my lucky coin! It's a ten-crown piece!'

'Ten crowns! Think what that could do in an emergency. Someone has to go after it.'

'Go ahead, but be careful, private! Those scorpions look dangerous.'

Seconds later...
'Got it. These bugs are as tame as kitt-'

Before the young soldier could finish his sentence, the foundation of the tower cracked. Something red and chitinous burst from the ground, and upset both the barbarian and the statue with a clumsy lunge.

Steven's companions rushed to the tower, but the other beasts had gained resolve with the emergence of their matriarch and held the gap.

At a time like this, Steven's life should have been passing before his eyes. All he saw was a tail, and some part of his stunned mind registered this irregularity. Fortunately, a new force proved this mental lapse from becoming terminal.

With jerky movements, the statue sat upright, causing the scorpion to withdraw for an instant's primitive thought. 'When in doubt, attack,' the beast decided, and skittered once more into the fray.

And fray it was, for an entire half-second. Gaining speed, the mysterious white guardian rose to its feet and whirled its sword. The tail shot forward, faster than thought...

...but the steel entity was faster still. Arthropodian joints and sinew burst, the sword flashed like a beam of light, and then blood began to seep gently from the monster's ruptured head in a rather disappointing trickle.

The five sailors let out a sigh of relief. Farrer did a quick head count.
'Ha! I didn't even see you move,' he commented.
'Well, I wasn't about to stick around there, was I? Too many sharp objects for my taste,' Steven replied.
'Private! Where is your crossbow?' Captain Harold demanded.

'Gods! It's back in the tower.'
'I'm sorry, private, but you've got to go get it.'
'Wait, captain. That statue made mince of the monster; if Steven goes in there, it'll do the same to him.'
'There's nothing for it, Mr. Farrer. Either Georgeson gets the weapon, or Cedric will have his head. Military rules. Best get started, private.'
'Aye, captain...'

Now that there was time to think, Steven's life did flash before his eyes. It was short, and had too many goats in it for his liking. The statue had returned to its original stance by this time, but now it faced the pirates and barbarians, silently challenging them. Steven took a deep breath, and lifted his foot to mount the steps.

He did not end up dead, of course. Instead, a white strap snapped onto the weapon and snatched it back into the waiting hands of Dead Flounder (pirate names- don't ask).

'Whoa... Dead... uh, thanks,' Steven managed, his mind lagging again. Unfortunately, some part of it took the confusion as a cue to pump blood into his cheeks. Hopefully the sunset would mean she couldn't see it, but Steven doubted his luck.
The pirate smiled in a missing-toothed way that was somewhat attractive, at least to a young man who had spent most of his life in a town populated entirely by his impoverished extended family. If only she didn't wear so many knives... then Steven would still be terrified and feel like an idiot, most likely.
'I just think a man's life is worth more than a weapon, whatever your regulations say.'
She returned the crossbow, re-fastened her bandolier, and fell in as the party of five continued through the Falmor wilderness.

Good, that's over with. Here are the pictures of the guardians, a scorpion and some sort of magical defender. I've seen clip-to-handle joints used on figures before, and I've seen clip-to-clip joints used on trees and vines, but as far as I know I'm the only one who likes to use clip-to-clip for arms, legs, and tails. I'm also using this space to show my Death figurine, which is similar to the white knight but appears to be having a much better time, if the grin is anything to go on.
EDIT - Yes, I realize that the figures aren't that impressive. I had a fix for while, okay? And I did get it right eventually:
