I made this just after the March the 25th, and figured I would have to wait until next year, but oh well, this is my almost week belated tribute the fighting partisans of Greece, who with the very honest catch cry 'Freedom or Death', won their freedom after nearly 400 years of indenturement to their Ottoman 'co-inhabitants' - since the fall of Constantinople in 1453. 'Long live free Greece!'
About this creation
In the ancient days, Spartans, Thracians, Macedonians, Arcadians, Atehnians, Corinthians etc, fought for the abstract idea of a united Greece. Two hundred years ago, the decendants of Megas Alexandros, Leonides, Plato, Helen and the like, the entire nation, women included, led by Theodore Kolokotronis, fought as one to regain control of the small measure of the ancient homeland which is modern Greece today. The uniform pictured here is that of the Ebzone. A Priest holds a banner with the Greek Cross, (minus the Fluer De Ly')

Here we see the famous English writer/adventurer Lord Byron, who bravely journeyed to Greece to help fight its war for freedom. His noble sacrifice is mentioned in the first few stanzas of the Greek national anthem.

Tensions between these two nations are still volatile to this day, I would only hope that peace continues to reign over the stupidity of war.

Do you have a plausible fig for Alexander Ypsilantis?
Ahh, a true patriot. I wonder if he knew his attempt would inspire the real deal. I went for Kolokotronis with the Moc since his revolt is the one that worked, but praise be to Ypsilantis and his doomed band for what they tried... |

Can't resist to say it to you : I think I'll nominate you for the MOCIE awards... in a very important category. That's because you're a really great space builder AND can make this kind of MOC too. Nice job !

Unfortunately, war will always reign supreme when it comes to human resolving. The build isn't too bad, but the history is what I like most about it. Very informative.

Great MOC! Always nice to see a tribute. Love those torsos, where did you get those?
They come with a cool pirate hat as well, in a small pack of 'pirate lego'. ! in each pack, I bought 4, they were about $12 each. I will try and find the model number on E-bay and leave it for you on my next comment on your work. Cheers mate... |
