We've talked about this before, but I think we really should do something to celebrate 3000 members. Maybe all you admins could come up with something?

Yeah! Let's do it! Two problems:

1. That would mean 3,000 vigs per person...
2. There aren't that many scenes in LOTR/Hobbit combined...

Other than that, let's do it!

We could try to do a collaborative build thing where the total number of bricks between each build involved would be 3,000.

Awesome! Although it is hard for me to get an a good number on a build... Do you mean exactly 3,000?

Yep, here's how i think we could do it. We would have a sign up thread for everyone who wants to participate, once everyone does (there would probably be a deadline to sign up) then wed divide up up the piece count between everyone. For example if 20 people sign up then everyone would have 150 pieces to work with.

I think it would be a cool way to stretch our creativity by having a piece limit, we could even make a contest out of it.

Once everyone's builds are complete maybe we could find a way to display them in the group all at once.

Yes, that would be cool. It would be sweet if we all built just a part of one LOTR scene, like the Black Gate or something. One could see the entire black gate by looking at each of our builds. So one person would build the cliff on one side, using 150 pieces (depending on the number of participants) then someone else would build the right side of the gate, and so on. Any thoughts?

Or we could do microscale of 30 different places, each with 100 (3000 divided by 30) pieces, and we each claim different places... Such as "I want Rhosghobel!"... Or we could do what Monsterlego suggested, and we could do a couple different places... And have however many builders (for this example let's say 10), and we are each given 300 (3000 divided by 10) pieces... Any thoughts?

Having read all the discussion in this topic, I have put some ideas together with my own ideas and come up with the following:

We hold a sign up thread for anyone wanting to participate. It will be 3000 pieces split up in smaller builds possibly telling the story of The Hobbit. The number of pieces/person is decided by how many people have signed up by the due date. Each build will be in a separate location (since trying to make builds match is hard due to people all having different Lego collections). Each builder is given a chapter (or portion of a chapter) to build a build on. These and other details could be coordinated in a separate group for those who sign up. End product gets revealed after we finish (or possibly a deadline will be set if people are taking a long time to build). Alternately, we could have the subject matter be places in Middle-Earth rather than chapters in The Hobbit.

Any suggestions are welcome and if we can agree on this, I will take it to the staff group and get the approval of the admins.

Yeah, sounds good! I would like to builds from LOTR though, not the Hobbit.

Thanks for all the great ideas! I vote for Stucky's suggestion, too. But I think something that belongs together somehow (like the story of the Hobbit) would be better than just 30 different Middle-Earth themed builds. Another alternative could be a region (like The Shire) and then each participating member can build one part of that region (like Bag End, The Green Dragon, Bag End from inside, The Party Tree, etc.)

As for the name of the project we could follow the tradition of 2000 vignettes and just call it "3000 pieces". :D

The second idea was not random builds. The theme was places in middle earth. However, I do see what you mean about builds that work together.
