Contest 2017

So because we had so few entries into our last contest I never set a new one. But while everyone is practically not here, let's start a new one. We're going to keep it simple this year with only three categories.

Space- Alternate X-wing

Basically any non-standard X-wing goes. So no T-65 or T-70s. You can make your own design or use an existing ship. Like the Tandom-X or the XJ X-wing. It must be minifig scale. It must be an X-wing. It must have a droid slot.

Land- Human Mech

Premise- Life on Mars story line where we go to Mars and meet martians. They have mechs. We come back. Humans see humans do. So build a mech that these humans would build after seeing Mars.

They must have a cockpit head, two-four legs, two-four arms. They also must be modular.

Mini- Alien Cruiser of some kind, must have some form of saucer in the design.

This contest will be open until Christmas. Everyone who is apart of the group can vote, including those who enter. You may not vote for yourself.

Sounds like fun. I think I'll try my hand at the modified X-Wing. I normally don't enter contests because my building time is so limited, but I should be able to get it done by Christmas!

I got two done. Can't wait to see your X-Wing. Hopefully more people enter.

My X-wing is coming along slowly but surely. I usually only have a couple of hours per week to build, and my building style can be charitably described as "methodical", but it's getting there. I have the wings, engines, and weapons done, now working on the main body.

My entry is finally done. I decided to go with a digital design, since I couldn't really get the color scheme with real bricks (yet!). This is actually my first digital creation, so it was a new experience. I'm using Stud.io, which was made by Bricklink. It seems to work pretty well, though I can't compare it to LDD or any other tool, as I've never used any of them!

Hmm, I might enter... But these rules are sooo specific.

Really? I didn't think they were. Build a mini UFO command ship. Must have saucer because it is a UFO. Build a human mech with arms and legs. Build an X-wing variant in mini-fig scale, must have astromech.

You can do a lot of things with the only rules being must have saucer, or must have arms and legs, or needs an astromech and must actually be a variant. I mean if you want to make a UFO without a saucer yet still somehow make it somehow look like UFO sets, by all means. And I guess the mech doesn't have to have arms, but it does still need legs. I'm afraid I can't take out the rule of the astromech otherwise it just wouldn't be a Star Wars X-Wing starfighter, but I guess it doesn't have to be a standard astromech. You could make it fit T7-01 and say he survived and happens to be your astromech... Or you could make it fit an R1 (That would be interesting with how huge that droid is) or a P2. Or BB-8.

Hmm, well, I suppose you're right. I might enter if I have the time, and if I get inspiration. Haven't been able to build anything recently due to a lack of inspiration...

Having an astromech doesn't mean it isn't an X-Wing. An X-wing is an X-wing because of the long nose and the wings making an X.
If I remember about this, I am going to see what I can do about the droid because the theme I want to build in has drones, not droids, let alone ones that look like an astromech.

Ooo, a spaceship group with an active contest, hurray! I will try to contribute. By the way does the 'mini' in the last category mean smaller than minifig scale?

Looks like I found this group just in time! I've been looking for an excuse to build a custom X-Wing and now I've found it. :P Also, for the mecha contest, what do you mean by "modular" and "cockpit head"? Do you mean that weapons are interchangeable, or that arms and legs can be swapped with other similar mecha? And does the pilot have to sit in the mecha's head, or can he be in the chest area or have a helmet? Sorry about all these questions, I just don't want to mess up my entry.

Sorry, didn't see this till a little while ago and been a bit busy. By modular I mean like the Lego Life on Mars Sets. So the head torso at minimum are interchangeable with other mechs. You can go further with legs and weapons and what not. I personally love modularism of any kind. Now the Martians have their cockpits as the head, but I guess you could put the pilots wherever. You could google Life on Mars sets for inspiration. Just imagine yourself, human, having just seen this alien tech and wanting to replicate it but with slightly more advanced human technologies and with a nasa-like color scheme of white.

Awesome. Two weeks left before contest deadline. Then we can begin voting. With yours done we'll have 3 X-wings. So far we only have 1 UFO Mini entry and there are no entries into the Mech.
