Hello Readers! Welcome to a special contest in celebration of the release of 10 MOCpages News issues! We thought we’d commemorate this special occasion by holding a very simple and fun contest for charity.
We’ve noticed our readers have a knack and interest in poetry, so the challenge is to write a short poem about Lego, which leaves you a lot of leeway on the exact subject you choose! By short we mean 10 lines or less in general, however if your poem needs that perfect 11th line then feel free to add it. All forms of poetry are acceptable. Try to capture our attention with something unique and fun!
You have one week from the date of issue #10 publication, so from 5/16 – 5/23 which is a Tuesday to Tuesday as we realize the issues are posted quite late sometimes.
Judging and the announcement of the winner... and the purchasing and giving of the sets will take place during the following week. We’ll contact the winner to determine the sets of choice.
Finally, the result and images of the given sets will be posted in our 5/29 issue (#12).
The Charity Prize:
The prize will be $40 worth of new Lego sets given to Seattle Children’s Hospital! What better to cheer up a sick kiddo than a sweet new Lego set! The author of the winning poem will be asked to choose $40 worth of one or more sets (from new sets that are available at the Lego store) which will be given in YOUR name! Our editor Doug Hughes will do his best to purchase the exact sets requested, but will make last minute substitutions if necessary due to store stock. Click the link below if you'd like to visit the children’s hospital donation page to learn more about this awesome charity. http://www.seattlechildrens.org/ways-to-help/donate/toys/
Our MOCpages News staff judges will look for a poem that excites us the most! This could be due to the impeccable meter, a hilarious joke, something that makes us think, or who knows! It’s a bit subjective we realize, but hey, the prize is charity for kids so no matter who wins… we all win!
You’ll submit your entries at a poem entry thread which will appear on Monday. Any comments that are not entries will be deleted from that thread to keep it clean, so please direct any questions specifically to the poetry contest questions thread which will also appear on Monday.
Thanks to everyone for participating in this charity event, and for being avid readers of our fine publication!
Quoting Sputnik The Third
I just watched Dead Poets Society last night for the first time and man I love that movie. The whole cast do such a good job taking a what could have seemed preachy and making it special.
Haha, I still haven't seen it. I feel I should fix that. Permalink
There's a line that has never, ever, elicited me to do anything. :-P Sorry, my well for creativity is at low ebb right now. Besides don't we have until the 29th?
Well... original intent was to have the poems in by tomorrow, then I could announce the results on the 29th. But since there's a little confusion and just four poems so far, I see no reason why not to extend for another week! I'll confirm with the other staff and we'll make an announcement. Permalink

Yeah, if you want something tonight, it's definitely not happening. (I got myself into a snit trying to fix some of my digital photos for builds and it's going to consume my evening.) Permalink
