uploader not working
Join to comment
well today i have an issue with the java new uploader. today i wanted to upload my two creations up today and when i went to use the uploader it said install java, okay, i checked everything i was supposed to use here and it worked properly however a new firefox update went in and i believe that's why i cannot upload anything now. i checked the plugins section and the java plugin was gone except for java script. i also tried ie and chrome but none of them could help considering all of them wont support java anymore. i know there is simple uploader but it does not give me the image quality i need or want.its funny i was just using this last weekend and before hand and now all of sudden it wont cooperate.so is there anything else i can use on mocpages? as it looks right now there is no way i can fix it on my own.

Do you post Lego pics anywhere else? You could copy the pics, and add the HTML to make them show up.

We mean a place like Flickr. But really, anywhere you can get an embed code for each image to copy over. It won't help you with the main image, but until the uploader gets fixed (I still haven't tried myself) that's what you'll have to do.

thanks for the info, well i got some good news and bad news, the good news is i got the uploader up and running again i just reentered the boolean for firefox which is tricking the browser into thinking the plugin is safe to use. the bad news is its only functional for a year after that the route i used will be blocked permanently along with java.

Hi, can you give us an example of the Html code we need to enter. For a flickr image for instance.
Thank you !

There is a share function on Flickr Pages. Then there is an HTML Embed code that can be selected. I'm not going step by step; it's actually really simple.

Hi Jason.

I think the problem might be the size of the pictures. Try opening them in paint and shrink the size to 800x600 :-)

I am also unable to get the picture uploader working. It seams Firefox no longer supports Java, according to the website, Chrome doesn't support it ether, and for what ever reason Internet Explorer wont run the uploader ether despite it being enabled for that. This kind of leaves me out of options.

Does the simple uploader not work for pictures over 800x600? According to the text at the bottom of it it should just be slower for larger files, not non-functional.

I understand from previous posts one is able to embed photos elsewhere as HTML, what would be the point of using this site if I can just upload them somewhere else? I like the community and layout of MOCpages, but it is frustrating having major features not work, so I hope a solution can be found soon.

Hey Scott , I also had an issue with the uploader. In your exception list did you type Moc-pages the dash must be there to work.

Hi Scott.
Regarding the simple uploader, When i tried uploading full-size (4mb) pictures, the uploader didn't recognize the pictures as .jpg-files. I don't remember where, but i read that i should try to shrink them to 800x600 dpi, and that worked for me. the uploader -might- accept slightly larger files than that, but i have never tried so i don't know that for sure.

Hey Scott , I also had an issue with the uploader. In your exception list did you type Moc-pages the dash must be there to work.

I remember a year or so ago you (at least I think it was you) made a guide on how to do all of that. I checked last night and the exceptions are still there. What is happening new is a new problem which I think is caused by web browsers dropping support for Java completely.

The simple uploader works if I shrink the pictures down, it is just an additional step, and gets annoying when I have several dozen pictures to upload.

Short term I am thinking I will use the simple uploader for the main picture so I have a thumbnail, and then try what some others suggested by adding pictures from Flickr with HTML. I just hope that in the future a better solution can be found.

Is anyone having issues uploading? I have tried to upload over the past 2 days and have not had any luck. When I click on the simple up-loader, I add all the photos and the percentage goes up to 100, it loads 'Continue'I click it and then the HTML never comes up. I don't know what it is that is causing it not to work. I have tried multiple computers and still nothing. It was working around 3 days ago. Please someone help, grrr. Thanks.

Upload your photos 1 at a time. If some of them still don't work, then try cropping, resizing, and resaving as a different file format, then try again.

Can we get Mark or Chris to open up the creations pool so Clayton can add it? We have that one for how to make a good MOC, but the uploader is always being asked about. Having it there may help alleviate new topics being created or always being brought back up unless there is a for real, unfixable problem.

Agreed that size seems to be safe, though I've been doing something more like 1000 or 1200 pixels and that works too. But yeah... takes a lot of time to resize them all when you have a lot of pictures.
If people want the html for linking to an outside picture here it is (just put this wherever you want the picture to show up):

<img src="LINK TO IMAGE SOURCE">

For Flickr, this is a quick easy way to get the link:
1. Click on the photo you want to share to open it.
2. Click the Download icon.
3. Click View all sizes.
4. Select the size of photo you want. (for MOCpages I'd select the 500 pixel wide item or smaller)
5. Right-click the image. | select Copy image URL.

Other sites have other easy ways, I use imgur a lot, and you can get the image location out of that even easier. But you may need to add a size constraint if you don't get to select a pretty size like on flickr. To do that you just add this style bit on the end:

<img src="LINK" style="width:500px;">

There's also just an embed function for Flickr that doesn't involve as many steps and allows you to select the size you want.

Although, those other ones are some very helpful tips. I may need to keep those in mind.

Ah! So it does work for larger pictures. Good to know, it might come in handy some day :-) I re-read Claytons Java-fix earlier today though, and after reading it and doing some testing i found out that my problem wasn't my browsers lack of Java-support, but MOCpages' new address. So now the "fancy-uploader works for me again :-D

Ok, I followed Clayton's article, and was horrified to learn that the latest versions of firefox do not support Java no matter what settings you put in Java. I dug around a bit, and found that firefox does still have a version which supports the old plugins until 2018... at risk to having a less secure browsing experience. As a test I uploaded one image with the new uploader and it worked great, so I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that it will work consistently.

Here's the info on the ESR version of firefox from Java and it includes a link to download it:

Yes, for the purposes of using Mocpages, I've been running an older version of .firefox for about three years. I believe I posted a link in one of the other discussions about the uploader as to which version will work, and where to get the official mozilla file (don't try third party sources, they often carry viruses).

I'm on my ipad tonight so I can't check the details right now. I'll possibly have time next week.

Edit https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/. You will need version 42 of firefox, i believe this was the last version before java was disabled. The link is official from the mozilla website and therefore virus free.

Warning, make sure you disable automatic updates, firefox will attempt to update the latest version if you don't.

Warning, many websites, including facebook, have coding that runs slower on older browsers.

If you use the simple uploader, your image size may be too large. Try scaling it down to around 1200 pixels in both directions. Outside that, I'm not sure what will help if there is an issue with platform or Java; but this is an easy test to try and usually the problem. Good luck!

I may be wrong, but I don't think the uploader works from an ipad. Java isn't supported by safari.
