Advertising outside MOCpages
 Group admin
This is probably the most underrated, but one of the most important things we still have to do! As we all know the community of active MOCpages users decreases, so we REALLY NEED to recruite from OUTSIDE MOCpages. The best would be to start a 2017 MELO flickr group as soon as possible? Is here anyone around who is experienced with flickr?

Also don't hesitate to create branches of our contest in other big internet LEGO communities, so that we will be able to pull them to the main contest on MOCpages.

Of course we first need to open the group for public, though.

I will advertise on Classic Castle, and I am trying to get a Flickr account, so that could possibly work out... :D

I'm sorry, I can't really help with this. My only online presence is through MP.

I'll do some advertising on Google + and some other websites. I'll also see if I can get some of my friends too.

I have a flickr account. I don't really use it at all, but I can help inviting people to a flickr advertising group, as I did last year.

Is here anyone who is experienced with flickr?
If not, then we will probably have to manage it without an expert, hehe. :D

Carter Witzenburg asked if he could come and join the planning group, cause he said he could help advertise from Flickr... Since you are the admin of the group, could you invite him?

Ok, so far we have

Google +
flickr
Classic Castle

Maybe we should also try to advertise on facebook, if there are larger lego groups, or even a MOCpages group.

And most importantly I think there shouldn't be only one of us promoting the contest on each site, instead it would help a lot if we all create accounts on the sites where we'd like to advertise the contest, and then support each other there.

So when you're done with the first step, (creating a topic, group, or whatever the first step will be, on the sites we'll choose)
then please send us a link here in this group.

This is our recruitment group on flickr (last year) It would be cool, if someone would be able to create a similar cool group for this year.

Welcome to the group! Sounds good. Maybe we can start a MELO recruitement group together and then we cann add advertising topics, a link and start inviting people?

And if there are some other possible ways to advertise the contest on flickr, feel free to do so. :)

I think we should definitely start with the first steps and all preparations that are needed now, but of course you are right: It only makes sense to invite people when the group is open to the public, but we should really start with it on April 1st. Or maybe we even manage to open it a few days earlier, then we should start advertising earlier.

There seem to be some big lego groups on facebook:

https://www.facebook.com/search/groups/?q=lego

I think we should give it a chance and start advertising there!

Another idea would be not only to advertise in lego groups, but also in LOTR groups.

Yeah, I think we should open it now, of we have everything ready... It gives people more time to come in to the group and "get settled"... BTW, I can also advertise on Eurobricks along with Classic-Castle, and if I am allowed to get a Flickr, then I can advertise there as well... :D

We can't start it now, yet. We still have to do a few small steps. The most important thing we still need to do is to contact the remaining three judges, who haven't checked out our contest dates and newest plans for opening the group this week yet, so that they are prepared for MELO starting soon. And then our last step is to add the "Contest Dates" topic to the group.

We also have to remember that new members have all their comments and first few MOCs moderated for a few days or up to a week.

I can't remember that from my early days? Since when does that rule exist and how does it affect our contest? Will the MOCs still appear the same day?

It would if new users post their first entry as their first MOC late into round 1, then it would appear after the deadline, even though they posted it before.

That's what I would think. Lets add in in the advertisements, something like "Make sure you post your MOC about a week before the deadline, because it will be delayed for new members."

Sound good. The only problem would be that other users would have an advantage, because they would have more building time then.

I hope you don't mind that I copied parts of your comments. :D

Also I think new members who would have their MOCs go through moderation should get the chance to send the judges their entries or at least some of the photos to an e-mail adress, so that we can see they posted their entries before the deadline.

That could work. I'm part of the MOCpages news staff, and we made a new account for it, and the first MOC only took a day to get through moderation, but sometimes I think it takes longer.
