Quoting Dark Aeon The broken form of Alphinaud stands back up. A teal mist descends from the gem in his hammer, surrounding him. As it dissipates, he stands again in perfect condition.

"Well, librarian, you are certainly blunt in your questioning. Allow me to provide my answer for my behavior.

"Ten thousand years ago, I was a benevolent ruler to an empire that spanned much of the known world. It was the pinnacle of culture and technology, far beyond that what your time has regressed to. We brought peace to the world, so much so that there was no longer a need for Warriors or an army in principle.

"One day, reports came in of strange beings that appeared on the edge of the continent, which had slaughtered the citizens there. We were appalled, and struggled to raise warriors, an army to fight back. Nearly a billion souls perished needlessly because of our lax assumptions. These intruders, which you would come to know as Makuta, were in the service of a dark God who sought only chaos.

"It took a year before they finally took the capital. There, I was burned in a bonfire as shades and Makuta rejoiced. Ramza had been reduced to ashes. Women and children, skin flayed and throats slit, were cooked for their feasts. A needless slaughter, one without mercy, for no reason other than to kill.

"In death, I begged the gods to avenge us, the gods we had worshiped valiantly all our lives. But they stood stoic, uninterested in 'mortal affairs.' That was the day that I knew that the gods did not truly care for the mortal species. For many millenia, I slumbered in the void, gathering strength before I willed myself back into the corporeal realm. I have vowed to grow stronger by any means necessary so that I may one day challenge the gods themselves, and remind them of the day they let their followers perish and be forgotten. I shall show the gods the errors of their ways, only after burning heaven just as Elysium burned. And when the last God is bled on his own sword, left to watch as their careful illusion is shattered by a disenchanted man, only then will we truly be free of their corrupt influence, free to truly be in control of our actions. Free will, as your philosophers have long pondered. I will rebuild the Elysian empire, and establish peace throughout this world, a peace that all will come to appreciate!

"The growth of my powers has slowed in the past thousand years. While I could easily overpower a Makuta in combat, that is where my limit is met. To push past this limit, I must absorb someone stronger. That is why I awoke the Fearbringer. Not to bring chaos, but order!" He aimed his hammer at the Fearbringer.

"And you, Fearbringer. Do not underestimate me. No opponent before I has spent as long plotting how to combat you. And before you retort..." Alphinaud suddenly disappeared in a flash of teal light. The Fearbringer was afforded only a moment of confusion before coughing up a torrent of its acidic blood. Keeling over, a massive hole carved itself in its chest, followed by an explosion that decimated its torso. Alphinaud reappeared for a moment above the Fearbringer, bringing his hammer down with such force that it sends the demon back into the ground. Alphinaud floated down and stuck the Fearbringer again in the chest.

"Now Fearbringer, let me show you why you should, fear me."

Alphinaud raised his hammer into the air. For a moment all was silent, before a droning sound, quiet at first, began to resonate through the cavern. The sound grew louder and louder before it crescendoed, a droning that blotted out the thoughts in the minds of all who listened to it. The Fearbringer drew its wings over its ears and shrieked, only for its cries too to be drowned out. Mist descended from the crystal, spilling through the carvings in the cavern floor, carvings once designed to contain the Fearbringer but now being used to kill it. The beast was enveloped and obscured. The cavern shook as the Fearbringer fought back, its cries overwhelmed by the humming of billions of anguished souls trapped in crystal. Slowly, the noise died, and as the mist dissipated, naught remained of the Fearbringer. Alphinaud slowly lowered his hammer, whose teal crystal shone more brilliantly than ever.

"All that is left, is ascension." With startling speed, Alphinaud shot upwards through the hole left by the Fearbringer, disappearing into the heavens. A voice rang out as the Elysian flew off.

"Agori, if you still wish to stop me, sail to Zanarkand and climb to its highest peak! Then try to negotiate with a man determined to bring peace, once and for all!"

In the air just north of the volcano, four black figures halt. Sur'kosh gazes on as the green-blue streak moves across the sea the way he came.

Sur'kosh: "It seems we arrived too late. Come."

The four figures follow the radiant being, thoughts of murder filling the shadows inside those colorless masks.

(OOC: just for reference, the party is going to have to go through Terengua Village, so no more Van'Shu threads for a while. Maybe we'll even have to make a separate thread for Zanarkand vs Terengua itself.)

Daradun stands at the head of the large, now purposeless crowd, musing over recent events. He had freed his people and all of Alphinaud's other captives, but the Emperor had still escaped and now had single handedly taken down the most feared being in existence. Daradun was also confused with Alphinaud's rantings against the gods. He knew that his people's gods had never abandoned him or his people, and he had felt them present personally upon his spiritual awakening. Bored, he twiddled his fingers, sending a few stray disease spirits into the void, and turned to Vos to express his concerns.
"So, Librarian, what are the beliefs of the common agori? I don't really remember anything from back when I was a storyteller."

Vos sighs irritably. Vos: "Right, let's go hiking again gents." Vos grumbles to himself as he leaves the cavern, followed by the others. Vos: "I really do dislike people. Can't make up their minds on where they want to have their little battles. It's a wonder we can fight wars at all! I imagine most casualties in war comes from the constant to and fro from one place to the next." He grumbles.

Fotoh: "I am still unsure of what exactly happened back there. Did that warrior... destroy the Fearbringer?"

Vos shrugs. Vos: "I am knowledgeable on many subjects, but religion... eh, not really. Never bothered with that too much. Last I checked we were Polytheistic, but that's about it. As for your question, Fotoh, yes. That whatever he was brutally beat the Fearbringer to death with his magic hammer and robbed the latter of his powers. Now we have to go out to Zanarkland and fight him there, except we don't have a magic hammer, and so we can't actually beat him via magic hammer."

Fotoh: "Indeed... the more and more we go on, the less likely it seems that we'll be able to defeat our new foes. Perhaps we should find some extra help? I am thinking of the founders of Botana: obviously Master Helgran cannot help us any more, but what of the Elder One? What of the others- Ha'Shuan, Terengua and Kakhan?"

(OOC: Wait, is the Elder One supposed to be the original Van'shu?)

Vos: "We don't have time to explore, Fotoh! All we an hope to do is reach Zanarkand and try to talk Alphinaud out of this ludicrous idea of his!"

Fotoh: "I can tell you now, Vos: Alphinaud will not listen to reason- we saw with Master Helgran how self-righteousness can blind a very old, out of touch creature with more power than sense. We must take the Elder One with us; we'll at least then have a chance if fighting does break out."

(OCC: Yeah, but I believe Dark Aeon established that ghosts in this world can't really do anything; plus, didn't Helgran go to the afterlife when Daradun became all Godlike? I thought that's what the "Nearby he can see the ghost of Helgran in joyous reunion with many of his former pupils" bit from your Redemption post was all about. Even if those two things weren't the case, how would Fotoh know about that? Plus, just in general I wasn't a big fan of the whole ghost thing anyway, especially for Helgran, so I wasn't really interested in expanding that bit of the lore)

OOC: Well Daradun just freed the spirits from Alphinaud's hammer. Most of them went to the afterlife, a couple are in Daradun's service, and probably a few of them went off wandering as ghosts to see what has been happening in the world. From Helgran and my own ideas I can deduce that Botana's ghosts cannot affect the physical plane, but they can engage in combat with other spirits and the spirits of corporeal beings, fly at high speeds, and verbally communicate with the living.

Fotoh: "I shall get him."
*He travels back to Van'Shu, specifically the Elder One's abode; he knocks, and waits to be summoned forth. He bows respectfully and then begins his report.*

Fotoh: "Elder One, there have been some startling developments in the past few hours. The Emperor of Elysium, the homeland of Ramza, has seemingly returned from obscurity and confronted us. We fought this being, named Alphinaud, and chased him deep into the mountain- towards the lair of the Fearbringer. We attempted to face the beast, but before fighting could break out, Alphinaud seemingly destroyed the Fearbringer, gaining new powers in the process. He has gone to Zanarkand, and we are to follow him. I humbly beseech you to join us on this journey- we saw what you did in the battle with Master Helgran: we would certainly benefit from the aid of your awesome power once again! We are thin on the ground for beings of such magnitude, and I believe we shall need at least one to face this tyrant!"

(OOC: 2 things, just unimportant nitpicks though:
1. Fotoh and co had walked to the mountain of their own free will, not transported by magic.
2. Unless everyone reapeared in Van'Shu without me knowing, or Fotoh can suddenly teleport, then he should still be at the mountain more or less.)

(OOC: 1- Oh yes, so they did. I'll change that. 2- well it did say that they walked out of 'the cavern', so my assumption was that they had the previous conversation while walking back to Van'Shu. But sure, if they just literally sat outside the bit where the Fearbringer was, then lets just say that Fotoh had to walk a bit before getting to the Elder One.)

The Elder One chuckles to himself. Elder One: "Well, I never thought of my powers as 'awesome' as you call them... unfortunately, I am still rather weak from that previous conflict. I am old, Fotoh, as you may understand... I have not the strength I once did... oh, you should have seen the days when I had just taken over for Lord Van'Shu, Seeker of knowledge. Helgran, Kahkan, Terengua, Ha'Shuan and I were an unbeatable team. We vanquished the Masked Dragon all those ages ago... *sigh* I wish I could return to those days... I truly do..."

The Elder One looks up at Fotoh and laughs. Elder One: "Haha, I apologize Fotoh, my friend. Come, let us go and find this Emperor of Elysium and either talk or knock some sense into his ancient skull. I only hope I truly can be of some assistance. When we rendezvous with the other Agori I will need to speak with Vos. He must let go of the past and fight today if he wishes our world to truly survive."

Virgil suddenly appears (I have no idea what to do any Ideas?)

The elder God Dmivor looked down at the world. A small faint purple glow caught his eye, which he identified as the use of one of the ancient travel pearls created with his power. Immune to time, he took his leisure to study its users.

The Elder One. The warrior Fotoh. Virgil. The God blinked. All beings of incredible power, set out on a suicide mission.

The other gods had long ago abandoned Dmivor, leaving him to watch over their works. His brother, Atlas, was bound inside, assigned to holding their creation together. The nonintervention pact signed by the other gods meant nothing to him.

Dmivor looked northwards of Van'Shu, saw the Warriors on their slow march to Zanarkand. In the face of death, they fought for life. He admired their courage.

A sigh exited the mouth of the ancient being. Slowly, he scooped up the land beneath the Elder One and his companions in one hand, while the other collected the rest of the Warriors. He turned and deposited them off the coast of Zanarkand before resuming time, letting the mortals wonder as to what divine intervention was facilitating their travel. The God smiled. Perhaps there was a chance that Alphinaud would be defeated by mortal hands.
(To be continued in the Terengua thread (unless we should make a separate thread for Zanarkand, but I don't think that's necessary))

A small hand lay a stone tablet with a copy of Vos' final poem enscribed onto it on a table, leaning on a beautiful urn filled with ashes. The hand adjusted the tablet and placed a large glass dome over the urn and tablet. The table sat in the remains of what used to be the Van'shu Library. The hands belonged to the small Agori. Derek. He smiled as he read the tablet, but lamented his sudden disappearance from the events. He shook his head as he looked at the ripped up books and destroyed shelves. He peered down to his Rahi, Kiki.

"It'll take a while, but I'll make sure to remake this library exactly how it was. I'll make sure it was something Vos and the Elder One would have been proud of."

Derek scurried down the swirling halls of the library, leaving the poem and the ashes of the library's owner, who some could say was closer to his books than he ever was before.
