Round 1

It's finally time for Round 1 of the Mini MocOlympics! I know it's a bit early but I don't want to keep people in faraway time zones waiting.

There are a few changes I must mention:
Once your entry is added to the group, it is set in stone. You may change minor things like a missing link or grammar errors, but one thing you cannot change is the images. Also, you cannot change anything after the deadline.

You must provide a working link back to this group near the top of your page. The title must look something like this:
Mini MocOlympics (or MMO) Round 1: .....

The deadline is Sunday, July 31st at 11:59 pm MOCpages time. You have just over a month to work on your entry! Enjoy this time as the later rounds are much shorter.

You will receive a 1-10 score from each judge. If all 5 judges are available, the maximum score will be 50. We will let you know if any of our judges are unavailable.

You will receive four categories in your bracket and you can pick any one of them. You do not have to announce your choice, but if you want to create some competition within your bracket, go ahead!

That's enough talking, now let's begin.

Just to clarify for our new members:

You do NOT have to build in mini scale. The word "mini" simply means that this contest is shorter than the real MocOlympics.

Hey, I have never done a MOC-Olympics before, do you have to incorporate all of those in one build, incorporate one of those in a build for specifically Round 1, or do you have those options for each Round 1 at a time if you get that far? Thanks again!

Just pick one for this round.

If you finish in the top 4 (or 8 if we have enough) in your bracket, you will advance to the next round where you will be in one-on-one MOC-offs with people in your bracket.

Suppose we have 13 entries in Round 1.

The top 4 from each bracket will advance to Round 2, which leaves 5 people eliminated.

Round 2: 4 players per bracket, 2 MOC-offs per bracket
Round 3: 2 players per bracket, 1 MOC-off per bracket
Round 4 (Final): 1 player per bracket, they face each other to determine the winner.

You won't know the categories for the next rounds until they start.

Depending on the amount of entries we have, the brackets might change in Round 2. Basically, if one bracket has 3 or more entries than the other, then some people will have to change brackets in Round 2.

LOL. I had the hardest time trying to remove a jewel from a transparent cone. In the end, I decided it was impossible and that I might as well leave it that way since I have many more jewels and cones. One day, my 9-year-old sister just pulled at them and easily removed them :)

If it was in my comment, HOW DID IT GET THERE?!
I took from everyone's stuff and compiled it into one big orderly comment.
Halhi did something similar and made his own really big comment. If you got it from him, then I will say that he doesn't give a carp about how pieces are connected. I stray from using illegal connections all the time. I will check though the group though.

I do believe that you can use any two colours you want, just you can't post a entry that has red, dark red, and blue in it a claim that you only used two colours. (correct me if I'm wrong admins)

That was just an example to illustrate that those count as two different colors and are not to be counted as the same since they use the same base color on the color wheel. You could choose any two colors you wanted like Orange and Olive, Green and Dark Purple, Blue and Trans-Black, etc. It doesn't matter what colors you choose so long as there are only two colors used and no more than two.

Here's my take on this. You can build more than one creation based off of the categories, but you may only submit one. Luckily for you, I am not judging anything until the deadline. The way things are done in the regular MocOlympics, you have until the deadline to submit your one entry. You can add it to the group, but when the deadline comes, judging begins. Until that time, you can add it to the group and make edits, make any changes you still want to make, submit a completely new entry in place of your old one, whatever you want or need to do right up until the deadline. So you can build another creation, but then you have to choose which creation you want to be judged, and only have that one submitted. Don't even have the other builds of yours in the creations section.

There is no way we are extending this. I'm not the one that sets the deadlines, but I already think this first round is going on too long anyway. A whole month? Who needs a whole month just for the qualifying round? But whatever, that's not important now.

It's also not our responsibility what you do outside of your activities here. If you aren't able to compete, well then that's too bad. It's not that we don't care; we want everyone to compete if they can, but we need to keep things moving, and extensions are death to contests. The people that turned in entries before the deadline have to wait even longer and then lose interest, and the people that asked for the extension continue to not build anything in time if at all. City Creator does have the last word, but I think that he would feel the same way.

Sadly, due to unfortunate circumstances I am not able to participate because of a family holiday. Maybe next year...

17 entries, now that's an interesting number...

If we stick with the 16-player format, that means exactly one person will be eliminated which would make them feel really bad, I bet. If we go to an 8-player format, then less than 50% of Round 1 contestants will advance, which will also not sound good.

If anyone could get in an entry in these last 12 hours, no matter how small, it would be greatly appreciated.

And... that's a wrap! We will be judging in the next few days and we will try to get you the scores as soon as possible. As for the number of people advancing to the next round, we are still discussing that in the judges group.

A thread with all the stats for Round 1 will be posted in a bit to keep you guys entertained.
