July 2015 UC Plotting:

Hello, all! Once again we have a chance to collaborate. Since the UC write-up doesn't say anything about this, let me explain my line of thought.
Quoting the UC
The exotic lands of the Outlaws - rich with rare goods and strange peoples - have beckoned at last. Adventure lies ahead! However, between Rainos and Bodus lie the hostile nations of Mythron and Enalica, and their associated fleets and armies. Depict part of your voyage, whether you make your way to Frost-Claw over hostile seas, through Mythronian lands and rivers or by some other path less-travelled.

Since we're all going the same direction on a long journey from one side of the map to the other, I think there's an opportunity to "car-pool" by forming a party that will travel together and having each member of the party post a separate leg of the journey. For example, one person could start with a troop of adventurers meeting up in Rainos, another could show the group crossing the Sea of Division, more people could meet up with the group when they get to Mythron, and everyone more or less shows one part of the travels and we have a massive crossover. If you're interested and you have one or more characters heading to Bodus, say so in this thread with the details on which of your characters will be making the journey, what they look like and what part of the journey you want to show.

May 2015 UC Plotting:

Mission 1: Hoist the Colors [ABORTED]
Location: Seas around Rainos
Secrecy: Widely-known, officially denied
With the advent of war, relations between the "civilized" powers have broken - but Enalica is stepping up to be Mythron's mimic, and, as its dictatress brings order to her lands, trade flourishes between Mythron and all the Enalican islands. In other words, our enemies' warships are in the east and their bloated trade ships are floating by our shores. Of course, it would be an act of war to officially sanction an attack on one of these vessels, but let's just say that the odds of a pirate facing any negative consequences from other Rainosians are very low.

Mission 2: Assassinate a Turncoat [COMPLETED]
Location: Island of Mythron
Secrecy: If you tell anyone, you have to kill them.
- Completed by Benjamin Olson
To the utter shock of one of our Nerogueian contacts, it seems that one of their officers is feeding information to the Enalicans (what a surprise, an ex-Outlaw goes back on her ways...). As it happens, this traitor has something we need: a parcel marked with the seal of the city of Pescado. Since we can't get our own operatives to the location, we need somebody in Mythron to enlist some local mercenaries or bandits, storm the turncoat's residence, kill her and take the package. If you can write your story so that it looks like you're attacking Nerogue until the last minute, you will receive Gilbert's eternal thanks.

Mission 3: Blockade Runner [ABORTED]
Location: Coast of Bodus or Nerogue
Secrecy: Not at all secret
- Multiple participants allowed
With Enalica cutting off trade in Nerogue and Bodus, we have a valuable economic opportunity. Rainos has plenty of good captains with fast, shallow-drafted ships that should have no trouble evading those cumbersome Enalican galleys and cogs, and a few other able vessels as well. Break through the blockade, perhaps taking advantage of the neutral waters north of Meids, and deliver supplies in exchange for a tidy fortune.

Mission 4: Dangerous Journey [COMPLETED]
Location: Rainos (subterranean)
Secrecy: Deep secret
- Multiple participants allowed
- Completed by VAkkron
Deliver supplies to a camp deep in the tunnels. The route, known as the "lowway", has been scouted thoroughly and is defended by several checkpoints, but some of the terrain is treacherous and there are still dangers from both inanimate threats like bad air and collapses as well as from some of the tunnels' denizens that have not yet been cleared out.

Mission 5: The Undertaking [COMPLETED]
Location: Rainos (subterranean)
Secrecy: Not a word to anyone
- Multiple participants allowed
- Completed by Halhi 141
Liason with dwarves, goblins and other subterranean builders of Rainos to build a fortress in the tunnels. Have fun designing the most cool and effective fortifications you can for this environment, either in whole or in part. Keep in mind that a breach will be opened up near the fortress at the end of the month.

Mission 6: Beach of Pigs [COMPLETED]
Location: Santuario
Secrecy: Make it look like an internal dispute in Enalica so that a war between our factions doesn't start until the occupation of Exileseat.
- Multiple participants allowed
- Completed by Halhi 141, added to by Gilbert Despathens
The civil war was harmful to the inhabitants of Rainos, but it left our people in Santuario entirely cut off and unprotected. The Enalicans in control of the island have not only banished the Dragon soldiers who attacked it, but also many of the Ibers who lived there. Those Rainosians who are left face harsh prejudice at the hands of the rulers and have lost the tools with which to protect themselves. Go to one of the island's towns and speak to the people, delivering or obtaining weapons if possible. Then let the revolution begin.

Mission 7: Removing a War Criminal [COMPLETED]
Location: Santuario
Secrecy: Silent as the Grave
- Completed by Andrew Spader
As the riots begin in Santuario, Lenuzo da Sabardia, an Enalican soldier who ordered his troops to slaughter civillians fleeing from a fortress he besieged during the recent war, has disappeared from public view and is no doubt making his way to the still-peaceful port of Rebeldes with all the speed he can muster. Build an epic chase scene and bring this criminal to justice.

Mission 8: Out of the Breach [COMPLETED]
Location: Subterranean Rainos/Exileseat
Secrecy: ABSOLUTE
- Multiple participants allowed
- Completed by Asad
The fortress in the tunnels is complete. We know when the supply fleet will be in Exileseat, and our supporters on Exileseat await the signal to join us. All that remains is to open the tunnel to the sunlight and send in the troops.
Note: If we are short on builds/builders, the same person can do both subterranean fortress builds and post the first half earlier in the month and add text and pictures showing the deployment at the end of the month.

Mission 9: Battle for Exileseat [COMPLETED]
Location: Exileseat
Secrecy: ABSOLUTE
- Multiple participants allowed
- Completed by Andrew Spader
Finally, somebody needs to actually depict the attack on Exileseat in its own build. Anyone doing naval builds can also join in by completing a high-seas mission earlier in the month and adding extra pictures to show their ship sailing into Santuario to stop the fleet from escaping.

Hey, I at least prefaced it with "Spoiler Alert". Anyway, let's do plotting so we can get some missions ready for next month. So far, these are the ideas I've seen:

Privateering: Launching "unofficial" pirate attacks on Enalica
Smuggling: Running the blockade to trade with Nerogue and Bodus when no one else is taking the opportunity
Reclaiming Santuario: Restoring the land lost by our faction in the civil war
Reclaiming Exileseat: Taking a strategic location back from Enalica

They all sound good to me (not the last because I though of two of them)

Okay. I totally misinterpreted it. I'll see if I can make my reappearance soon and then I'll help Rainos reclaim it's place as the centre of attention of every UC, rather than the neutral onlooker it currently is.

A couple of other ideas:
- Assassinate a Mythronian/Enalican
- Spread dissent in the enemy's land
- Build up pro-Iber sentiment in southern Enalica
- Steal something impressive
- Spy on an enemy planning session
- Take Rainosian settlers into Enalican territory

The UC is out! Official missions based on those in this thread will become available shortly. As you may have seen, though, the most active of intelligence agents can only conclude that "no single Rainosian is aware of more than a single part of a grand plan" - so be prepared for some secretiveness on the part of your staff reps.

Can I post the Invasion of Exileseat? (That is, if Rainos decides to) It would be the perfect introduction to my next big supporting character (The last one died). And it would be a chance to show off my Northern Dragon Clan Army.

In that case, I can get almost anywhere close to the Mythron-Nerogue-Outlaw territory, so if there's to be any assassinations in that area, I could probably do them.

What I'm looking at right now is a whole bunch of options, but no way to pull them together into one plan. And even if everyone volunteers to do something, most of them will be different. So Halhi, Gilbert and Asad, sorry if I'm sounding rude, but I think that we, or you, need to decide where exactly we are going to strike. Because unless you have some master plan about how to hit Mytgron and Enalica at the same time, and make them both hurt, we need to decide who exactly we will be fighting. That's my take on the situation as I see it right now.

How about a coup d'ιtat from Rainosian sympathisers in Santiario, and an invasion of exiles eat at the same time? That way:

1. We can focus our forces in Exileseat, since it would just be Rainosians already in Santuario who are fighting (We could maybe send some peace-keeping garrisons next month, should it be a success)

2. Exileseat would give us a great place to attack Mythron from, should we succeed in capturing it.

3. If we had Exileseat the privateer challenge would be far more relevant.

Also, I'm sure that the tunnels would come out there. They go across the sea of division, so why wouldn't there be a halfway point in Exileseat. Because of this, don't you think we could pull a siege of Troy? Place ships around the island, and have some men sneak in through the tunnels and kill/burn what/who we need to.

Alright everyone, here's the gameplan. We ARE attacking Exileseat. However, we're going to do it in a way that won't draw Enalica's attention until it is far too late for them to make a move against us. In other words, there's some prep work. These are the four main parts we need to work on:

Diversion:
Keep the other factions distracted by sending out privateers to prey on the abundunt shipping between Mythron and Enalica. At the same time, keep Nerogue and the Outlaws afloat by breaking the blockade to sell supplies. We can also send people into Enalican territory that used to be under full or partial Rainosian control (Santuario, Exileseat) and stir up dissent.
Planning:
This phase involves procuring information and supplies that we will need to pull off the attack. For example, we may want to steal schedules for Enalican military shipping and find out who will be in Exileseat when.
The Tunnels:
Our trump card is our control over the tunnels that connect Mythron and Rainos under the Sea of Division. The network is dangerous, labyrinthine and full of nasty creatures, but, since we explored them back in July of 5 AU, we have succeeded in finding a path that passes under Exileseat. At this location, surface-dwelling Rainosians are working with dwarves and goblins to build a fortress in the tunnel and prepare a route onto Exileseat.
The Capture:
When everything is ready toward the end of the month, we can actually show the attack on Exileseat. Our tunnel engineers will open a breach and our forces will move in, meeting up with Rainosians that live on the island, and capture Loda's garrison. We'll coordinate this so that we can strike when there are a bunch of supply ships for the blockade in the harbor as well, and we should be able to take over a lot of those, too, instantly doing a blow to Enalica's navy while getting some free ships for our own.

If we want to do this well, our builds will occur roughly in sequence. Also, not everyone gets to attack Exileseat, but there are plenty of other ways to enjoy some nice violence. If you can compete in this UC, please state what part of the plan you want to contribute to and we'll assign you a mission. The following comment has a few to get you started.

I am open and interested in #4, and will do my best to post. Otherwise, #6 sounds interesting. So does #5, but I don't think my collection could withstand that size of build. Halhi should definitely take one.

I want to say right now I am SO glad I joined Rainos!

So Gilbert, are you planning to stagger the build submissions in some sort of order so all the other LOM citizens only see the story unfold sequentially? That would be really neat, though it seems like it would be a pain to organize.

Sorry for keeping you in the dark, but we have the master plan more or less set up. You wanted to do an assassination in Mythron, right? I wrote Mission 2 with you in mind - let me know if you're willing to take that on.

All right. I'll do it. A slight milestone. Aleric's first authorized murder. Lovely. Can't wait to get started.

That would be cool. The attack on Exileseat builds will come last, definitely (and I haven't posted missions for those yet), but we could also title the builds with their mission number and link to the others.

Do you have a preference? Like the note in Z says, you build a ship for privateering and then add extra footage of the same ship arriving in Exileseat. Also, multiple people can do Z in cases like that, so you could use your ship for the sea part and someone else could do the land part.

Rainos get to choose their own UC mission. We're attacking Exileseat, as well as starting a coup d'ιtat in Santuario.

Mythron and Nerogue are at war, Enalica is on Mythron's side blockading Nerogue, and the Outlaws (now an official state) are helping Nerogue, trying to break the blockade.

What is Exileseat?

Exileseat is the island in the middle of the Sea of Division. Caleb R. claimed it for Rainos a long time ago, and took it with him when he switched to Enalica. It was the jumping-off point for Rainosians allying with the Black Lotus and numerous other raids on Mythron as well, and it has a large Rainosian population including a "monastic order" devoted entirely to the downfall of Mythron. Now that Caleb's character is no longer the faction leader of Enalica and the new dictatress is friendly toward Mythron, we're taking the island back with a complicated scheme.

Alright everyone: this is how Rainos will win the Battle of Exileseat. Just so we can plan for whatever happens next month and so anyone else can make an MOC for it.

-The Rainosian soldiers, as planned, burst from the tunnels and kill lots of people.
-Unfortunately there is a walled port on Exileseat housing lots of Enalican ships which could send the Rainosian navy into retreat.
-The Rainosians ram down the sea gate of the port and use the ship to barricade the way out.
-They continually fire ballistae from sea at the portress (port/fortress).
-The foot soldiers reach it and capture the Enalican ships while they're still docked, giving Rainos both control of the island and a sizeable addition to their fleet.

Go for it. It can take multiple people. However, if you want to tie it in with Exileseat somehow (maybe by making a reference to the other Rainosians suffering under Enalican rule there, maybe by picking up a mysterious object that we can say is tactically relevant later), that would help tie the plans together.

Hmm, okay. I kinda hoped to combined my Mission 7 with Mission 6 in one build. In essence, Jonathan arrives on Santurio, meets one of his agents, who he gives money for the rebellion. This agent informs him Pro-Iber and Pro-Rainos sentiment is at an all-time high, and Civil War is quite likely. Jonathan then uses his time to find the War Criminal, who he gets to tell him about the whereabouts of one of my supporting characters.

I hope it doesn't matter too much that my focus in the underground caverns is on a certain surprise creature that appears. I don't have enough pieces to do much with rockwork, but I am putting in what I can. The main part of the build will be the story and beast, though.

New plot, everyone! Who wants to go on a roadtrip? Since the UC is sending all of us to Bodus, there's great potential for a crossover. If you would like to have your characters join up with a party, post who you want to send with the group here and what sort of adventure you would like to show on the way. I'll be sending some Bull soldiers and dignitaries, but I haven't worked out all the details yet and I'm open to suggestions.

Those guys could be fun to work with in a crossover. I've still been working on what characters I want to use to some extent - probably just some of the survivng able-bodied Bulls, including Steven's cousin if you remember him. How about this travel itinerary: Your guys set sail, meet mine in Exileseat, and both proceed to the coast of Mythron and from there overland to Bodus Minor? Halbert and company get to do the talking if/when the group runs into any guards, since their accents sound suspiciously Mythronian as it is. ; )

Time to plot again! Faction-mates, we have been invaded, and not by Mythron this time (or have we?). Let me fill you in on some details left out of the main group prompt:

- Our faction did, indeed, procure several of the golems that Mythron "bought"* from the foreigners. These, as with many other weapons and items of military hardware, were placed in Guaire at our growing arsenal. Rather than march off into the fog during the first strike, though, they assaulted the nearest city gate in coordination with a separate troop of dwarves emerging from an undeground tunnel. Rego Arian's garrison managed to destroy most of the golems and secure the walls, but, with who knows how many enemies outside, the city remains under threat.

- We are fairly certain that the dwarves do not, in fact, have the ability to cause earthquakes: any tremors felt were a result of their troops opening tunnel entrances or marching in step. The heavy fog present at the beginning of this month remains a mystery, however, and we do not know whether it was brought about by magic or coincidence.

- The dwarves have a very uniform and well-regimented army. Their standard troops are well-equipped, but they also have specialist troops to handle siege equipment or mining gear as well as auxiliary companies that seem to be made of other races drafted or hired by their army. Most importantly, none of these foreigners seem to speak any languages that are recognizable in the Lands of Mythron, so we have practically no way of learning more about them or where they have come from.

These are the finer points of the challenge with which we are faced. Our opponents are many and well-coordinated, while we are dispersed and off-guard. They seem to be everywhere and anywhere, so finding a place to rally our forces is difficult. Thanks to the language barrier, there is no negotiating to be done. We must simply defend Rainos on all fronts to the best of our ability, reaching deep into the resources available to us if we want to win. Good luck, countryfolk.

* Is Mythron actually as innocent as it seems? Could they have negotiated with this imperial power? Did they intentionally see to it that some of the golems would make it to Rainos? What about Enalica - did their explorers seek out these invaders, or did their fleet encourage their ships to pass on and attack us? While the main objective of this challenge is to raise our defenses, keep an eye out for treachery from the other factions and trust no one.

Hey, guys (meaning Andrew, possibly Ben and anyone else who chances by this group), I have some good news! We're being given creative license to deal with the invasion as a faction almost however we see fit. Want to enlist actual dragons to fight them? Go for it. Think we could lure their main force into a trap? Let's do it! Of course, we don't quite have the same numbers we did as when we were pulling off secret missions against Enalica, so I don't expect a huge collaboration, but I did want to let you guys know that we can formally take control of our own fate on this.
