Zelda Movie?

Well the title says it all (mostly). Should a Zelda Movie be made? If so what game would it be based off of? Discuss all that in this thread. It should be interesting. Here's a post on ZeldaDungeon.net about it (bit lengthy though) what are your thoughts?

I believe there should be one! I think the movie should be based off The Legend of Zelda(The first game http://zeldawiki.org/The_Legend_of_Zelda_%28Game%29 )

I think it would be a cool idea but how would it work? Link doesn't talk. 80% of the game is in dungeons. Plus there are many side-quests to take into consideration. A movie with a guy that doesn't do any talking, wandering through 10 dungeons (OoT), fighting a big boss at the end of each dungeon would be kind of boring in my opinion.

Not only do you have to take that into consideration and modify the story so that it would be fit for a movie, but you have to think about all the many Zelda fans. Old and young alike. Do you want a more mature film with lots of blood, gore and violence? or a film geared toward younger kids? So many factors come into play that it would be nearly impossible to make a movie that caters to every Zelda fan's ideas of how the movie should be done.

Oh, haha, I've never played the first game so I didn't know... I should probably play all the games before choosing one to become a movie...

I haven't played all the games but I'm just thinking, so many different games but they all have several things in common. Dungeons, bosses, mute Link, Zelda's in trouble. I think that a movie based on this painting would be very interesting. There is no reason why it HAS to be based on a game! Check out the painting. It would make a VERY interesting movie that would appeal to more than Zelda fans. Almost any medieval fan would be interested in it.

I really like it because my brother and I used to play like that. Link fighting alongside the King of Hyrule against Ganondorf and his army of whatevers. It would make a good movie theme wouldn't it?

OK, here's my idea of how a Zelda movie COULD work. The dungeons/temples wouldn't be too hard (think Indiana Jones). This movie (or movies) would be loosely based on Ocarina of Time.

The (first) movie starts out with Link as a kid, dreaming about Ganondorf chasing down Princess Zelda, stealing the Ocarin of Time, entering the Sacred Realm and releasing an army of monsters on the Land of Hyrule. Link doesn't really think much of it until he is summoned to the Great Deku Tree (or he decides that he needs to do something and goes to the Deku Tree for advice). The Tree tells him the legend of the Triforce and Ganondorf. The Tree gives him the Kokiri Emerald, Sword and Deku Shield. The Deku Tree Dungeon is purely optional. If they were to include this dungeon, it would look better if the Emerald was at the end, after defeating the boss.

The Tree tells him to go find Princess Zelda. Link leaves the Kokiri Forest, but on the way out is stopped by Saria. Saria gives him the normal Ocarina. Knowing Hollywood, we will probably have a big(er) romance part between Saria and Link so I'm prepared for that. Actually I'm prepared for TONS of romance throughout any movies based on OoT. Saria, Zelda, Ruto and even the Gerudo Chief Nabooru (Nabooro? however that goes) when Link becomes an adult.

Link continues to Hyrule Castle where he finds Zelda who tells him that she has been having similar dreams. She says that they will need an army to fight Ganon and his Gerudos so Link goes to recruit the Gorons and Zoras. The Gorons agree to help if Link will kill the King of the Dodongos (which Link promptly does) and the King of the Zoras promises aid if Link will rescue Princess Ruto (again, Link does that in a without thinking). Expect romance in this part considering that Ruto even picked Link as her husband =P

With the armies all recruited, Link returns to Hyrule Castle but he arrives too late! Impa rides out with Zelda, Ganon close behind but Impa and her epic Sheikah-ness outrun the green-guy (not Link). Zelda throws the Ocarina of Time back into the moat or something like that. Ganon blasts Link with some weird energy. Link awakens.

He finds the Ocarina in the moat and sees a vision of Zelda teaching him the Song of Time. Link goes to the temple, plays the song and draws the Master Sword from the Pedestal. Ganon appears and he and Link have an ultimate duel. Ganon defeats the young and inexperienced Link and waltzes right into the Sacred Realm.

If it was to be split into two parts, this is the place to split it. In the beginning, we see a series of flash backs from Links previous adventures. In each we see his shadow but it doesn't always do what he does. Like it has a mind of its own. We see a final flash-back of Link pulling the Master Sword from the pedestal. As Link does this, we see his shadow become real, turning into Dark Link- a manifestation of the bad side of our hero.

We see (adult) Link awaken in the Chamber of Sages where the Sage of Light explains everything that has happened in the past seven years. He explains that in order to defeat Ganondorf's army of monsters, he will need the armies of each of the Six Sages.

Link proceeds to awaken all Six Sages, who agree to add their power and armies to Link's cause. Obviously for a movie, the temples would have to be shortened a good deal. As Link proceeds to awaken each Sage, he is confronted several times by Shadow Link. At times, Link despairs and the Shadow almost beats him, but in the end, Link triumphs.

Link then calls all the armies together under the banner of the Kokiri (or maybe the Sheikah because of course, Sheik has been guiding him the whole time). Sheik reveals herself as Zelda and pledges to help Link in this battle.

Then suddenly, Ganondorf's army comes down on Kakariko (where the armies were gathered), led by Shadow Link. Link's armies are scattered and the Sages imprisoned. Link is beaten by Shadow Link.

Link is awakened by Navi who tells him that he needs to go to Ganondorf's Castle. Seeing that all his friends are gone, Link decides he will have to defeat Ganon on his own. He sets off to the castle.

Link fights his way through the castle where he again meets Shadow Link. They fight each other and Link appears to beat his dark self but really the (defeated) shadow escapes to come back and haunt our Hero (since Shadow Link is an embodiment of Link's dark side, he cannot truly be vanquished).

Link then has an ultimate duel (think Mustafar from Star Wars) with Ganondorf and beats the King of Evil. With the Gerudo King's defeat, the Sages are freed. Led by Zelda, the Sages seal Ganon in the deepest dungeons of the Sacred Realm.

The movies could, in theory, end here or there could be a third one.

If there were a third one, it would be the return of Shadow Link who assumes the position as leader of the deposed Ganondorf's army. Link, thinking that peace has been restored, is caught unawares. Shadow Link's army comes out of Gerudo Valley and destroys Lake Hylia. They go on a conquest and destroy all the well-known and loved locations or Hyrule. Link and the Sages must rally everyone that is left to fight against Shadow Link's army.

They drive back the forces of evil and make a final assault on Gerudo Valley. Destroying the Gerudo's home. Link and Shadow Link have another ultimate duel and Shadow Link is defeated, and sealed away in the other deepest dungeon of the Sacred Realm (keep him AWAY from Ganon =P)

Hyrule is rebuilt or something like that and they all live happily ever after (except Ruto who feels betrayed by the fact that Link is goin' out with Zelda rather than the Zora Princess).

So.....Now that that is all out, what do you guys think? Are they good ideas? What would you change? Should they be closer or further away from the game? I really want to hear your thoughts on this guys!

I think your story line is great Evan, but it would be hard to make a zelda movie, as link's personality is so hard to perfect. whatever Hollywood did, they would get a lot of hate, because everyone sees link differently.

Yeah...that's one of the main reasons I don't think a Zelda movie would work because Link is supposed to be the 'Link' between the player and the game. Everyone has different thoughts and so, in turn, so does Link.

They should make one of TP where each dungeon is like a different fil or somehing.

Yes, assuming that they didn't just make an original story, Twilight Princess is likely the best choice due to its story driven and cinematic nature.

Yep, I've seem it, but honestly I'm not all that big of a fan of the art style they used. I prefer Link looking more like his Ocarina of time, Twilight Princess, or Skyward Sword incarnations.

Yeah I had originally thought that OOT would be a really good choice but after I got TP I think that it would be a much better fit for a movie.

Hadn't watched that before but it is very awesome, similar to the Clone Wars as far as animation style. I think the Link design looks pretty good but Gandondorf looks too much like a teenager when I had always thought him to be like 50 or 60.

I'd like to see an OoT movie come out. Maybe give link an actual personality and lines, and it could work.

Either that or SS. Dat romance tho, LOL
